Dryer Vent Wizard to Raise Funds for Children’s Burn Foundation During National Fire Prevention Month

DETROIT - September 24, 2012 -(BUSINESS WIRE) - To help further the efforts of fire prevention and safety during National Fire Prevention month in October, Dryer Vent Wizard (DVW) is raising funds for the Children’s Burn Foundation. A member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), DVW is a nationwide franchise that specializes in dryer vent repair, replacement, alteration, cleaning and maintenance for residential and commercial clients.

It is estimated that poorly maintained or clogged dryer vents are the leading cause of appliance fires and cause 15,000 to 17,000 dryer fires every year.

According to Terry Reuer, DVW president, the company partnered with the Children’s Burn Foundation, www.childburn.org, because the non-profit’s educational programs align closely with DVW’s services and mission.

“In addition to providing medical and psychological care, including camps and activities, for children burned in fires, we offer programs for burn prevention and education,” said Carol Horvitz, executive director of the Children’s Burn Foundation, serving more than 50,000 children. “Dryer Vent Wizard’s fundraising efforts on our behalf are greatly appreciated and will enable us to expand our programs about fire safety and prevention.”

During October, DVW franchisees will give out wristbands with the company’s slogan “Prevent a Fire, Clean Your Dryer” in exchange for a donation of five dollars each and more, with 100 percent of the proceeds donated to the Children’s Burn Foundation. During Fire Prevention Week, scheduled from October 7 to 13, 2012, DVW franchisees are also partnering with open houses at local fire departments throughout the U.S. to demonstrate dryer vent cleaning services. Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire in October 1871 that killed more than 250 people and left more than 100,000 people homeless.
