101 Mobility Rochester Donates and Installs Stair Lift to Volunteer Fire Department to Aid Disabled and Senior Guest/Members

Miguel Millan, franchise owner 101 Mobility Rochester and former firefighter donated and installed a stair lift valued at $4200 to the local Sea Breeze Volunteer Fire Department for disabled members and guests in need.

Rochester, New York (PRWEB) October 01, 2012 - Since 1915, those who were unable to climb the eighteen step staircase at Sea Breeze Volunteer Fire Department were excluded from social events at the department. Like most fire departments, the trucks and equipment are located on the first floor while the reception hall is on the second level. With a pressing need for a way to safely transport disabled patrons and friends to social gatherings just up the stair case, Volunteer Firefighter, Mark Champion began his search for a stair lift ten years ago. Volunteer Firefighters and Sea Breeze patrons endured through tight budget restrictions and other bumps in the road as Champion applied for grant after grant. Meanwhile, the firefighters were literally carrying the elderly and disabled in their wheelchairs up the narrow eighteen-step staircase. The Sea Breeze Volunteer Fire Department’s pursuit of a mobility solution nearly halted as they struggled to raise funds for the project.

When Miguel Millan of 101 Mobility Rochester received a call from his local volunteer fire department seeking to purchase a stair lift to enable their disabled members and guests to move freely about, Miguel knew he couldn’t turn his back. “They called with the intention of purchasing any discounted stair lifts and I knew that I could do better.” After working for years as an EMT and firefighter, Miguel explains “I know the hardships that they go through and they [emergency responders] are just good people……we at 101 Mobility saw a need and took the opportunity to help by donating and installing a stair lift.”

101 Mobility prides itself in operating with integrity and exceeding expectations. Champion attests that this custom installation was no different, “Our volunteer firefighters are aging and a lot of them are senior citizens, one of our veteran firefighters is a double amputee; we don’t have to carry him or anyone else up the stairs in their wheelchairs anymore! We also raise money for the department by renting out the upstairs reception hall and now we can bring in more groups, there is a lot of excitement within the department. We really appreciate what Miguel has done and his donation has made a huge difference!”

Miguel opened 101 Mobility Rochester just eight and a half months ago and is passionate about restoring dignity by providing patrons with the choice to lead an exuberant and independent lifestyle. 101 Mobility Rochester will focus on aiding the disabled and helping clients age-in-place by selling, installing, and servicing ramps, stair lifts, automobile lifts, patient lifts, vertical lifts, barrier-free baths and offering complete home modifications to incorporate total accessibility solutions.
