COIT Cleaning and Restoration Company Offers Holiday Home Cleaning Tips

COIT, a leading supplier of specialty cleaning and disaster restoration services headquartered in San Francisco, is offering tips for busy Americans who want to get their homes clean and ready for the holiday rush.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 03, 2012 - “December is a busy time when it comes to cleaning the house and maintaining a healthy and orderly indoor environment,” Bob Kearn, President and CEO of COIT, said. “It can be difficult to keep up with guests who come and go, holiday decorations and other preparations, and clean-up after holiday meals. But if you stay organized and rely on professional cleaners when necessary, it’s possible to make it through December and really enjoy your home.”

COIT recommends taking the following steps to maintain a clean, healthy, and efficient household during the holiday season:

Create a checklist of cleaning tasks, room-by-room, and stick to a schedule. Post the list on your refrigerator or a family bulletin board. Certain tasks, such as dishwashing, eliminating clutter from end tables and other surfaces, and wiping countertops in the kitchen should be performed, if possible, on a daily basis. Sweeping floors is recommended every two to three days, and vacuuming should be performed once a week in carpeted areas (more often for high traffic spots). You can assign family members to each cleaning task.

Have your air ducts cleaned if you have a HVAC system and haven’t scheduled an air duct cleaning in the past two years. Dust, mold, allergens, and other contaminants can get circulated through your home if you have dirty air ducts. This problem can become more pronounced once windows are closed against colder weather. Clean air ducts are especially important if you have family members with dust or other allergies.

Purge magazine racks, bookshelves, bedroom closets and toy storage spaces early in the month. If you’re expecting an onslaught of new catalogs, books, clothing, toys, and other holiday goodies, early December is a good time to donate older items to a local thrift shop or non-profit organization. Make space for gifts before they arrive to avoid a cluttered environment after the holidays.

Place a footwear tray near the front door along with a variety of clean slippers and a small sign that asks guests to remove footwear before entering the house. This step will go a long way toward keeping dirt, mud, and other contaminants off the floors and out of the home.

Schedule professional cleanings in advance. If you want your home to look fresh before family arrives or just in time for a holiday party, schedule a carpet cleaning and upholstery service, a drapery cleaning service, and other required professional cleanings in advance of the event. Holiday time can be busy for professional cleaning companies, so it’s a good idea to call as early in the month as possible so your cleanings can be scheduled in time for your event. Also consider scheduling a carpet cleaning service after the big party.

Breathe. The holidays can be a hectic, challenging time. If you stay organized with a checklist and stick to a cleaning schedule, you’ll be taking important steps toward maintaining a clean home. If spills or other problems occur – and they probably will – just breathe. With the help of a professional cleaning company like COIT, the spill can be addressed, and your home can return to normal after the holidays.
