New Franchisee’s Choice Adds Up to Card Connection

December 11, 2012 // Franchising.com // Leading greeting card publisher and franchisor, Card Connection, has announced it has a new franchisee for Bury St Edmunds and Kings Lynn. Former sales executive and maths teacher, Michael Hayes, will take over the supply and merchandising of Card Connection’s range of more than 1,500 quality greeting cards and accessories to over 100 retail outlets in the region.

“I have been considering running my own business for a number of years,” confirms Card Connection franchisee, Michael Hayes. “In the summer, I spent four months researching the market thoroughly. As a former maths and economics teacher I am quite logical and so planned the purchase of the franchise like a military operation! I looked at every single British Franchise Association member including all their pros and cons and the result added up to Card Connection!

“I also evaluated other greeting card suppliers but none could match Card Connection’s product range and the professional support and training the head office staff provide,” continues Hayes. “I anticipate running the franchise will allow me to take advantage of some of my existing skills in sales when it comes to prospecting and meeting retail customers. I am also looking forward to the slightly creative element of merchandising greeting card displays in retail outlets.

“I am really excited to now be running my own franchise,” explains Hayes. “In the short term there will be a learning curve, but quickly I would like to develop the franchise and perhaps even expand the territory if the opportunity arises in the future.”

Card Connection is part of UK Greetings, which is a subsidiary of the largest publicly owned greeting card publisher in the world and has limited vacancies for franchisees who are keen to run an expanding business. Suitable candidates would ideally have some management experience as, once established, and depending on the size of the territory, they could be expected to employ a small team, operate a small warehouse and have several liveried vans on the road.

Since the franchise network in the UK is complete, the available opportunities now consist of acquiring an already-established territory from an existing franchisee. These vary in price according to their level of development, but start at £20k (+stock) with earnings potential in excess of £50k per annum.
