Flip Flop Shops Retail Franchise Concludes Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

Canada’s Leading Flip Flop and Sandal Retailer Raises $1,603 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to Help Create a Future without Breast Cancer

January 18, 2013 // Franchising.com // VANCOUVER – In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Flip Flop Shops locations throughout Canada raised $1,603 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to help create a future without breast cancer and encourage consumers to be proactive and maintain regular check-ups.

The campaign ran throughout October 2012 and allowed consumers to receive a pair of pink SANÜK Ibiza flip flops for a minimum $5 donation, with all proceeds directly benefitting the foundation. Participating locations included: the Calgary and Edmonton shops in Alberta; the Coquitlam, Nanaimo, Kelowna, and Vancouver shops in British Columbia; and the Saskatoon shop in Saskatchewan.

“I want to give a big thanks to the Flip Flop Shops Canada family; everyone really came together and did a remarkable job spreading awareness of our campaign. Likewise, we are so grateful for our consumers, who helped us raise money for breast cancer awareness,” said Doug Kingston, the Canada Master Franchisee (Size 11) of Flip Flop Shops. “We have all been impacted by breast cancer either directly or through close family and friends, so this campaign hit home for all of us. If we were able to inspire even one consumer to go in for a check-up after leaving a shop, then this campaign was a success.”

Breast cancer is a complex disease with no known single cause, and will affect one in nine Canadian women during their lifetime. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, it’s estimated that nearly 23,000 women and 200 men throughout Canada were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is Canada's leading community-driven breast cancer charity dedicated to: funding relevant and innovative research and supporting and advocating for the breast cancer community.
