Altamonte Springs Planet Smoothie Adds Tasti D-lite

Area Developer Plans Additional Dual-Brand Locations

January 29, 2013 // Franchising.com // Altamonte Springs, FL - Planet Smoothie - located at 380 South State Road 434 in Altamonte Springs - has added Tasti D-Lite—the great-tasting, lower-calorie frozen dessert chain with a fanatical following among health-conscious consumers as well as celebrities—to its center. The store officially opened as a co-brand Friday, Jan. 25. They will hold a grand introduction event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 with prize giveaways, face painting and a meet and greet with Planet Smoothie’s “Cupman” and Tasti D-Lite’s “Fillmore Cups.”

Since Tasti D-Lite acquired Planet Smoothie, which serves real fruit smoothies with low calorie, low sugar and high protein options, in December 2011, existing franchisees have had the opportunity to add the other brand’s products to their locations.

Jason Mann—who owns two Planet Smoothie centers in central Florida including the one on State Road in Altamonte Springs—is the area developer for central and southwest Florida. Mann’s 24-unit organization makes central Florida one of the most successful Planet Smoothie markets in the country. Mann’s growth plans include infusing Tasti D-Lite into existing Planet Smoothie locations and finding franchise owners to open new co-brands throughout central and southwest Florida.

“This is a nice marriage between two strong brands with excellent, custom-made products,” Mann said. “Having dual-branded locations gives franchisees the best opportunity to be successful and offers more options for our customers. I am encouraging Planet Smoothie owners in my territory to add Tasti D-Lite if it fits in their store and I am seeking entrepreneurs to open new locations with both brands.”

A Florida native, Mann moved back to Florida from Washington to open his first Planet Smoothie in 1999. His wife, Connie, left a teaching career to build the operations of their first and second store. Today, Connie still oversees operations while Mann supports and recruits franchisees.

Mann and his franchise owners plan to add Tasti D-Lite to the majority of existing Planet Smoothie locations. Mann expects to open 48 new co-branded centers throughout central and west Florida.
