Comforcare Senior Services of Rochester Celebrates Grand Opening

Husband and Wife Team Bring In-Home Care Business to Rochester Area

February 11, 2013 // Franchising.com // Rochester, N.Y. - To celebrate its grand opening, in-home care provider ComForcare Senior Services, located at 3380 Monroe Ave., will host a special fundraising event in collaboration with Five Guys Burger and Fries, located across the street from ComForcare on Monroe Ave. From 4-8 p.m. on Wed., Feb 20, Five Guys will donate 20 percent of all meal proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Association of Rochester on behalf of ComForcare. Guests can also enter to win an iPod touch at the restaurant.

“We wanted to celebrate our grand opening in a unique way,” said ComForcare owner Mark Judd. “Since Alzheimer’s disease is a cause close to my family’s heart – and plays a major role in senior care – raising awareness by partnering with this outstanding organization was the natural choice.”

Mark Judd owns ComForcare with his wife Lynn. The couple, who have been married 30 years, opened the business because they weren’t quite ready to retire after leaving their corporate careers last year. Mark spent 35 years as an engineer at Xerox Corp., and Lynn spend 25 years as a graphics designer at Printegra in Perinton.

Both had always wanted to own a business, so when they learned about ComForcare, a Michigan-based franchise with locations around the country, they jumped at the opportunity. Since both Mark and Lynn have aging parents who will soon need extra assistance, the homecare industry seemed like the right decision.

“Instead of retiring, we decided to invest our savings in something which would benefit our community,” Mark said. “Plus, as America’s population gets older, demand for senior care will continue to grow, and homecare is a less expensive, more independent alternative to an assisted living facility, making ComForcare a solid investment.”

Mark is proud of the fact that ComForcare is a family business: the Judd’s daughter Karrah, a college senior, works at the office full-time, and is a major contributor to the success of their business. She hires and schedules our staff, maintains employment documents, and handles our payroll. Lynn focuses on marketing and bookkeeping, while Mark focuses on day-to-day management and growing the business.

ComForcare of Rochester officially opened on Nov. 1 of last year, but the Judds worked out of a temporary office space until their permanent space was ready to open in early January.

“The grand opening is a celebration of the new space, but it’s also our first big public event,” Mark said. “This is our chance to really reach out to the community and let them know our services are available.”
