Next Gen Consoles Leave Questions Unanswered, CEO of Play N Trade Speaks Out on Digital Downloads

In the wake of the Sony PS4 Announcement, the CEO of Play N Trade, Charles Beaupré, Discusses Digital Video Game Ownership

San Clemente, CA (PRWEB) February 25, 2013 - Charles Beaupré, the CEO of Play N Trade, one of the largest video game and consumer electronic retailers worldwide reaffirms his commitment to the consumer, as the video game industry continues to evolve.

Play N Trade is committed to ensuring that the evolution remains in the best interests of consumers. “Play N Trade, has always been about the consumer," says Mr. Beaupré. “Our number one goal is to provide a consumer experience better than anyone else. As the world of gaming changes we want to ensure that our customers are protected by allowing for the ownership of videogames, not simply a license. The consumer today works harder for every dollar they earn. Manufacturers should not dictate their use of the products they purchase." Mr. Beaupré continues, “Why should videogames be different than owning a book, music or a car? Let the consumer decide what they want to do with what they own."

Play N Trade is excited about the possibilities that new technologies provide. Such advances should include a superior delivery format, a focus on environmental sustainability due to the elimination of packaged goods and the reduction of game piracy. All these considerations are positive, as long as the end result is a more affordable and better product for the consumer. The buying and selling of used games brings capital into the market and eliminating this currency could be counterproductive. We are optimistic about Sony’s announcement to include the ability to play physical media on the PS4. This will allow consumers to continue to buy and trade their favorite games,” announced Beaupré.

“As we see it, Play N Trade’s store model will focus on serving gaming on all future platforms, including tablets, smartphones, and consoles as they develop.” said Mr. Beaupré. ABIResearch anticipates 7.4 billion smartphones on the market by 2015. This is equal to the entire worldwide population. “For Play N Trade, smart phones and tablets are mobile gaming devices that fit perfectly in our repair and trade in model. Gaming is now available, anywhere, by everyone, on any level. How fun is that,” exclaims Mr. Beaupré.

As the discussion of the sale versus licensing of digital content heats up, Play N Trade seeks the public’s opinion on the matter. “If you have thoughts about the legalities of owning versus licensing video games we would be glad to hear your thoughts,” offers Beaupré. “Email us at pr (at) playntrade (dot) com and we will gladly post them on our website and share them with video game publishers and manufacturers.”
