March 15, 2013 // Franchising.com // Austin, TX - Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas is pleased to announce plans to open a New Braunfels, TX location with franchise partner Reel Dinner Partners. The New Braunfels venue will be the fourth Alamo Drafthouse opened by Reel Dinner Partners and will be located at the Marketplace Shopping Center, approximately one half-mile south of Interstate 35 and Highway 46. Alamo Drafthouse will take over the existing space there during the summer and begin remodeling for a fall opening.
After remodeling the 35,311 square foot space, "Alamo Drafthouse New Braunfels Marketplace" will be a state of the art location with eleven screens, and the only dine-in movie theater in New Braunfels. Each of the auditoriums will be equipped with high-tech Sony 4K digital projection, as well as excellent screen size-to-room ratio and amazing Dolby Digital sound. In addition to the superior AV equipment, the layout of each auditorium will eliminate the traditional front row, ensuring every seat in the house allows for a great viewing experience. Alamo Drafthouse Marketplace will also feature a lounge offering an extensive menu of draft and bottled beers, wine, and food. The lounge will be named Glass Half Full and will offer patrons an inviting place to socialize whether they are there early for a movie or out for a night with friends.
"We have been excited about coming to New Braunfels for some time. It's a city we love, and we're excited to share great films with the community," says Tim League, CEO & Founder of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.
"For the past three or four years we have pursued the conversion of our movie theater to a cinema-eatery concept," says Pat Wiggins of Wiggins Company, owners of the Marketplace Shopping Center. "It is now going to become a reality and with the Alamo Drafthouse operation, we feel that we are working with the industry leader of this concept."
Reel Dinner Partners, owned by Brandon Arceneaux and Chris Hoegemeyer, is a San Antonio-based corporation and a franchise partner of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema brand.
"Being a part of the New Braunfels community has always been on our wish list. We feel like we can be a great addition to the area and we're very much looking forward to bringing the Drafthouse to town. We have heard for years now about how so many of our loyal customers would drive from this area and travel to San Antonio or Austin to get their Drafthouse 'fix.' Being willing to drive that far for the experience we provide speaks volumes about our fans and it makes us thrilled we can open one closer to home," says Brandon Arceneaux.
"New Braunfels is an exciting, growing market and we feel that Drafthouse will thrive here. We see this as an opportunity to be the 'neighborhood theatre' for everyone from San Marcos to Live Oak," says Chris Hoegemeyer.
Named one of the "Top Private Companies in San Antonio" by San Antonio Business Journal, Reel Dinner Partners currently owns and operates three Drafthouse locations: Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes, opened in 2004; Alamo Drafthouse Park North, 2009; and Alamo Drafthouse Stone Oak, 2010. They have been named "Best Movie Theatre in San Antonio" by both the readers and the editors of San Antonio Express News, San Antonio Current, and San Antonio Magazine. Their development agreement with Alamo Drafthouse includes all of San Antonio, the surrounding areas and the Rio Grande Valley. Reel Dinner Partners has plans to pursue additional locations and to expand the presence of Alamo Drafthouse in San Antonio and South Texas. The Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas provides a unique combination of theater and restaurant, showing first-run and independent films along with special event programming, and featuring an extensive menu of foods made from scratch in state-of-the-art culinary kitchens. Customers order all food and drinks from servers who quietly attend to them throughout the movie. Customers are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy curated pre-show entertainment. Instead of a barrage of advertising, a pre-show of rare (and often hilarious) clips are shown that change on a regular basis, often tailored specifically to the feature film.
Additionally, the Alamo Drafthouse protects the theater experience with a zero tolerance policy for people who disrupt the film with talking or texting. Last year the Alamo Drafthouse made global news for a viral "Don't Talk" PSA that used a humorously misguided voicemail from an actual patron who was ejected for texting during the film. The full story on the long tradition of Alamo's no talking/texting policy can be found here.
