Waco, TX (PRWEB) March 22, 2013 - According to the American Lung Association, common indoor air pollutants such as radon, molds, pet dander, pollen, lead dust and asbestos are just a small fraction of the agents that can cause health risks. The Environmental Protection Agency lists poor indoor air quality as the fourth largest environmental threat to the United States.

The air consumed in homes and workplaces is generally worse than most people believe, leading to health risks ranging from mild to severe. The effects of poor indoor air quality, often caused by moisture, pets, poor ventilation, and unmaintained air conditioners and humidifiers, can range from headaches and congestion to respiratory issues and asthma.

In addition to the health threats, poor indoor air quality leads to structural degradation and instability. Common issues include structural rot, mold growth, ice dams, and musty odors.

“It’s important, especially after a winter of closed doors and windows, to remove any lingering pollutants and find ways to keep them from returning,” says James. “For people with allergies, I recommend they consider a heat recovery ventilator (HRV), which allows them to get fresh air through the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system while avoiding losing or gaining heat from your space.”
