With Summer Just Around the Corner, Experts from SeekingSitters Provide Tips for Finding and Screening Babysitters and Advice on Background Checks

SeekingSitters is a nationwide babysitting referral service that has in-house private investigators screen all sitters. They have added pet sitting, house sitting and study support to its services.

Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) March 29, 2013 - While headlines across the country warn about nannies harming children, a licensed private investigator with SeekingSitterssays thorough background checks can keep kids out of danger—and make everyone in the home safe.

Adrienne Kallweit is the licensed private investigator who founded SeekingSitters with her husband in 2004 to help other parents find safe, reliable child care. The company is expanding and now offers sitters for house sitting, pet sitting and study support at many of their locations. They have more than 90 locations in 27 states.

“Our number one priority has always been to make sure the things you love most in the world are safe when you’re away,” Kallweit said. “Our in-house private investigators dig deep into every sitter’s past to make sure they’re going to be safe and reliable for your family now and in the future.”

Kallweit says recent cases of children being left unattended or abused could have been prevented if there had been a thorough background investigation conducted by in-house private investigators. Online and instant background checks can often miss information such as past arrests or convictions.

SeekingSittersdoes all of the work: they find babysitters, conduct one-on-one interviews and then their in-house private investigators thoroughly screen each sitter. Kallweit offers these tips for parents to follow when screening someone to watch a child, a house or a pet:

Have the sitter fill out an application listing every place they’ve lived, their date of birth and social security number. Verify their identity with the U.S. Social Security Office.

Conduct a face-to-face interview.

  • Ask them to describe their experience caring for children and/or pets
  • Give them some scenarios and ask them to explain how they would handle it

Ask for at least three references.

  • Ask the reference why the sitter left, how she performed and if they’d hire her again.
  • For child care, ask how the kids liked her and what activities she provided for them.

Hire a licensed investigator to screen all sitters and make sure that a live person is handling the screening.

Kallweit and her staff have worked hard to build the safest nationwide sitting community for families, whether it’s for your kids, your house or your pets.
