Hampton Hotels Delivers a Slam Dunk for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta

Gym Renovation & Equipment Donation Offer New Beginnings for the John H. Harland Boys & Girls Club

April 05, 2013 // Franchising.com // MCLEAN, Va. - Building on the basketball fever of the NCAA tournament, Hampton Hotels is bringing its Hands-On Hamptonality community relations program to the youth of Atlanta. Through a partnership with CBS EcoMedia and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's Strong4Life movement to promote healthy habits and lifestyles, Hampton is delivering a much-needed gymnasium renovation to the John H. Harland Boys & Girls Club, which serves more than 265 area children and teens each day during after-school hours. In addition, theglobal hotel brand is scoring extra points with the donation of new sports equipment to all 24 Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.

Since late February, nearly 100 local Hampton Team Member volunteers from the area's 41 properties have supported the refurbishment, which includes the installation of a new rubberized playing surface, backboards, overhead lighting as well as revamped locker rooms and game rooms.

"For many of our kids, the Boys & Girls Club is their home away from home - they study, they relax, and most of all, they play," said Missy Dugan, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta. "The Club upgrades and new equipment will deliver a whole new level of excitement to their after-school experience."

Hands-On Hamptonality is Hampton Hotels' signature community relations program that aims to inspire acts of service, both large and small, to help build stronger and more connected communities through the spirit of hospitality. The program enables Team Members to extend their friendly service culture, known as "Hamptonality," beyond the hotels' walls.

"At Hampton, our commitment to service is more than just volunteering," said Judy Christa-Cathey, vice president, focused service brands, Hilton Worldwide. "It's about anticipating the needs of others and then committing to action. Through our overall ethos of service and partnership with organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, we can truly bring the spirit of Hamptonality to life."

To celebrate the renovation's completion, a basketball tournament will be held for all 24 Metro Atlanta Boys & Girls Clubs on Saturday, April 6, culminating with the championship games on Sunday, April 7 at the Harland Boys & Girls Club.

The renovation will also be featured in the fifth installment of the hotel brand's "Hamptonality Moments" video series on YouTube, which showcases real guest stories about their extraordinary interactions with Hampton hotels and Team Members.
