New Baton Rouge VooDoo BBQ Is Coming to a Theater Near You

Perkins Rowe Location Aims for Pre- and Post-Movie Crowd at Popular Perkins Rowe Development

NEW ORLEANS, LA - (Marketwire - Apr 9, 2013) - VooDoo BBQ & Grill is opening a new restaurant Thursday in Baton Rouge's busy Perkins Rowe urban village, aiming for a share of the popular development's visitors -- especially patrons of the movie theater complex next door.

"We're extremely excited to be part of the Perkins Rowe development," said Brad Smith, who co-owns the franchise with Joe Scardino. "There are a lot of new restaurants and shops opening up there, and the movie theater is right there, so it offers them an opportunity to dine before or after the movie in 30 minutes or less."

The new store is the third in Louisiana's capital city for VooDoo BBQ, a rapidly growing New Orleans-based barbecue franchise with 13 open locations in Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina and Florida. The Perkins Rowe location joins a store on Nicholson Drive near the LSU campus and another on Drusilla Lane, which Smith and Scardino also own. The two hold the franchise license for Lafayette as well, and they hope to open there in the next year or so.

Perkins Rowe, which opened in 2008 at the busy intersection of Perkins Road and Bluebonnet Boulevard, has more than 300 condominiums and apartments, offices, space for more than 60 restaurants and shops, a book store, grocery store, pharmacy and the 16-screen movie complex.

"It's the only development of its type in Baton Rouge, where you can work, eat, live, play, and all of it's right there," Scardino said.

The new store will employ about 40 and serve food from VooDoo's recently reworked menu, featuring new items such as baby back ribs, fresh salads, expanded side dishes and more affordable options for tight budgets. It will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
