AAMCO® Total Car Care Hires Franchise Law Expert Richard L. Kolman as General Counsel

Kolman was recently named Vice President of Law and General Counsel of American Driveline Systems, Inc., the parent company of AAMCO Transmissions, Inc.

Horsham, PA (PRWEB) April 22, 2013 - AAMCO, the nation’s leading and the world’s largest chain of transmission specialists, with nearly 800 automotive centers in the United States and Canada, is pleased to announce the newest addition to its senior management team, Richard Kolman. Kolman was recently named Vice President of Law and General Counsel of American Driveline Systems, Inc., the parent company of AAMCO Transmissions, Inc.

“I’m honored to join AAMCO, one of the most recognized franchise brands in the world and I’m excited to help strengthen the AAMCO system so that it offers even better opportunities for our existing franchisees and for new franchise owners joining our network,” Kolman said.

Kolman brings to AAMCO a unique combination of top level experiences in the franchise industry. Beginning his franchise legal career as the youngest attorney in the Legal Department of McDonald’s Corporation, he handled a wide variety of transactional and dispute resolution responsibilities for the world’s largest and most recognized franchise. Following his years with McDonald’s, Kolman served as Senior Franchise Counsel for United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS). Kolman played a critical legal role in the largest-ever rebranding in franchise and retail history, Mail Boxes Etc. into The UPS Store, which led to a major expansion of that franchise network. Kolman is one of only a handful of in house attorneys to have served on the Governing Committee of the ABA Forum on Franchising, after serving in several other senior leadership positions for that organization. He also served in numerous leadership positions for the International Franchise Association and on the California State Bar Franchise Law Committee. Kolman is a frequent author and presenter on issues relating to franchise and distribution law.

Most recently, Kolman was President and Principal Owner of Franchise Note Buyers LLC, a franchisor-approved vendor of financial services to the nation’s franchise industry. It was through this company that Kolman was introduced to AAMCO and learned of the transformative technology and strategic moves AAMCO has recently taken to build upon its successful history as the franchise industry’s leader in the lucrative automotive aftermarket segment. When he was offered the opportunity to lead AAMCO’s legal team, he knew it was an opportunity well suited to his prior experiences.

“Working closely with AAMCO’s leadership team, we started talking about the new levels of growth possible for the iconic AAMCO brand and it was something that I became highly intrigued by,” shared Kolman. “Joining AAMCO, I bring both a fresh perspective and best practices that have been developed with my prior experience at franchise industry giants such as The UPS Store and McDonald’s.”

As AAMCO’s General Counsel, Kolman manages the Legal and Consumer Support departments, including overseeing network compliance with brand standards as AAMCO grows both domestically and internationally. “A fundamental key to positive customer experiences and franchise ownership success is ensuring network-wide adherence to AAMCO’s high brand standards for quality, service and value.” Kolman also works closely within AAMCO’s senior management team, offering strategic input and legal options for the company’s key initiatives.

“The best piece of advice I ever received as a young lawyer was that you don’t want to be seen as Dr. No,” Kolman said jokingly. “It’s my job to make sure AAMCO has as many legal options as possible to accomplish its business objectives.”

AAMCO is the recognized leader in the automotive transmission business for over 50 years. With brand recognition in excess of 90 percent, almost 800 locations nationwide and with the most highly skilled technicians and best technology in the industry, AAMCO is now positioned to become the market leader in brakes, tune-ups, air conditioning and other aftermarket automotive repair services.
