Salsarita’s Acquires Five Locations in Charlotte Area

Fresh-Mex Chain Announces Plans for Additional Corporate-Owned Restaurants

April 23, 2013 // Franchising.com // Charlotte, NC - Salsarita’s, the Fresh Mexican Cantina with locations around the country, has acquired five franchisee-owned locations in the Charlotte area. The acquisition comes as part of Salsarita’s long-term plan to corporately own 10-15 percent of its restaurants nationwide, focusing on North and South Carolina, as it expands nationally through franchising.

“Corporate expansion is incredibly important for us here at Salsarita’s,” said Phil Friedman, CEO of Salsarita’s. “By expanding our restaurant ownership in our home market, we can continue to build an industry-leading franchise support team more effectively, test new products and strategies and most importantly, better understand the needs of our franchisees by facing the same operational challenges they do.”

Four of the locations acquired are in Charlotte, at 101 S. Tryon St.; 9941 Rea Rd.; 320 S. Tryon St.; and 12807 South Tryon St., respectively. The fifth store is located at 14230 Reese Blvd. in Huntersville.

With this acquisition, the corporation now owns seven of Salsarita’s more than 80 existing locations, and plans to develop several additional sites over the next few years. Eight corporately owned restaurants are planned in North Carolina’s Research Triangle area (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) by 2018, 2-3 each in Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point, N.C., 2-3 in Columbia, S.C., and 4-6 more in Charlotte, N.C., where the brand is headquartered and there are currently 16 company- and franchisee-owned locations.

“Salsarita’s has proven to be highly successful across the Carolinas, and we are eager to continue the brand’s growth in its home region and beyond,” company president Larry Reinstein added. “By adding new corporate locations, we will be able to target new development and real estate opportunities that were previously unexplored.”
