The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc. Supports Gluten-Free Awareness Campaign During Celiac Awareness Month
Fondue franchise partners with Gluten Intolerance Group for fourth annual Chef to Plate Campaign
TAMPA, Fla. - April 24, 2013 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - In recognition of Celiac Awareness Month in May, The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc., the world’s premier fondue restaurant franchise, is partnering with the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) for the annual Chef to Plate Gluten-Free Awareness Campaign.
“The Chef to Plate Campaign aims to raise awareness about gluten-related disorders through gluten-free dining during the month of May,” said Shane Schaibly, corporate chef for Front Burner Brands, restaurant management company for The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc. “The Melting Pot teamed up with GIG in 2010 to launch our gluten-free menu to provide safe and delicious fondue dishes for guests with gluten intolerances and we plan to continue to support gluten-free awareness through Chef to Plate.”
Celiac disease, an autoimmune disease that damages the intestine when gluten, the protein found in wheat, rye or barley, is consumed, affects one in 133 Americans (about 3.1 million people) and one in 250 worldwide.
Working with GIG, The Melting Pot introduced a gluten-free menu in 2010 that features gluten-free cheese fondues, salads, entrées and chocolate fondues, as well as gluten-free fondue dippers. Each year, The Melting Pot serves more than 10,000 pounds of gluten-free cheese fondue.
Chef to Plate is an international gluten-free awareness campaign of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America (GIG), a nonprofit group dedicated to raising awareness of celiac disease and other forms of gluten intolerance.
