Childrens Music Franchise Owner Celebrates 10 Successful Years

May 23, 2013 // Franchising.com // Local children's music franchise owner, Elizabeth Hawkhead, is celebrating her 10th successful year bringing music classes to the babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers of Leeds.

Former Bank Manager, Elizabeth, bought her Rhythm Time music franchise ten years ago after having her own children. As a bank manager, I had looked after other peoples' businesses and this gave me an appetite to run one of my own. Music was a passion of mine, so Rhythm Time gave me the perfect opportunity to do what I love and have a career that fitted around my young family," she quotes.

The music franchise owner's classes have proved so popular that over the past ten years, over 4000 babies and young children have attended Elizabeth's classes in Leeds. In fact, music still features heavily in many of the children's lives.

Hannah Walker, now aged 12, attended Rhythm Time in 2003, and at the age of 10 was selected by the Northern Ballet Academy to study classical ballet on their Advanced Training Programme.

Rowan Lightfoot, aged 8, also attended Elizabeth's classes in 2005. Rowan now attends ballet and was recently chosen to play a role in the English Youth Ballet's production of Coppelia in York. He is also in the Tingley Brass Band where he plays the cornet.

Luke Flear, aged 11, attended classes in 2003 and is now a talented drummer. Luke performs in a 'Big Band' group at school as well as playing as part of local Ensemble. He has recently formed a band with some of his best friends and is looking forward to developing his music skills further at high school.

It was evident that the parents of Hannah, Rowan and Luke all felt that Elizabeth's Rhythm Time classes played a big part in developing their children's love of music at an early age. "I really believe that Rhythm Time helped to nurture Rowan's love of music. I'm sure his understanding of pitch, pulse, rhythm and dynamics all started at Elizabeth's classes," says Lauren Lightfoot, mother to Rowan.

"What has the last 10 years given me? A genuinely rewarding business that I am proud to own and of what it has given to so many children across Leeds," adds Elizabeth. "I feel that I have been in a very privileged position to share so much with so many families across the city."
