Drafthouse Recommends spotlights a first-run movie with the Alamo stamp of approval, indicating that we love it and want everyone to go see it. Our goal is to highlight groundbreaking, innovative and intelligent films we believe deserve to be seen by as many people as possible.

Additionally, Alamo Drafthouse is proud to announce an advance screening of Only God Forgives in Austin on June 19th, with director Nicolas Winding Refn and composer Cliff Martinez live in person!

From Pusher to Bronson to Valhalla Rising to Drive and now Only God Forgives, Nicolas Winding Refn has proven time and time again to be one of the most fascinating and talented filmmakers working today. He also keeps audiences on their toes, never satisfied to deliver merely a formulaic copy of his previous work.

Most American audiences were introduced to Refn with his wildly popular thriller DRIVE. With Only God Forgives, Refn reunites with DRIVE star Ryan Gosling and composer Cliff Martinez to deliver one of the most talked about moves at Cannes (the film received simultaneous boos and standing ovations at its premiere).

Ryan Gosling plays Julian, the son of a Thailand-based crime family who prefers to spend his time managing a Muay-Thai kickboxing gym than engage in the family business. When violent tragedy hits, Julian is forced to defend the family honor in a quickly spiraling torrent of vicious revenge.

Hyper-stylish, dripping with sweat, neon and blood, Only God Forgives delivers a straight down the middle pitch to Fantastic Fest audiences.
