Servpro Sponsors and Hosts Disaster Symposium

In an effort to bring more awareness to disaster preparedness and solutions, Servpro held their second annual disaster symposium at the start of the 2013 hurricane season.

Spartanburg, SC (PRWEB) June 20, 2013 - In states like South Carolina that are at risk for major damage in the wake of natural disasters, disaster preparedness and solutions are important issues to discuss. Servpro, a national restoration company with local franchises, sponsored and hosted a disaster symposium to educate and guide attendees in developing plans to prepare for the unexpected. They hosted alongside Spartanburg County’s Office of Emergency Management as well as the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

About two dozen business and industry leaders attended the event to hear experts in communications, disaster recovery, crisis management and meteorology talk about providing solutions to better deal with disasters. The strongest emphasis was placed on having plans ahead of time. Setting up plans with skilled technicians as well as insurance companies to ensure quick response and accuracy are important steps to take before the fact.

Hurricane season has recently begun, and South Carolinians are aware of the potential for a major storm. South Carolina has gone some time without a direct hit, but “it only takes one,” as Tony Sturey, a high impact weather specialist from the National Weather Service at Greer, said.

Getting businesses up and running as quickly as possible after a disaster is one of the most important elements to getting the entire community back on its feet. The amount of businesses that do not recover after a major disaster stands at almost 40 percent. Servpro hopes that with more education and guidance, businesses can sift through the difficulties of a major disaster with ease and continue their work.
