Time to Make Bathrooms Safer for Seniors, Says House Doctors Handyman Service President

House Doctors will now be able to install Safeway Safety Step and Grabcessories products improving safety in the bathroom for their customers and helping them live more comfortably in their homes. As research shows the older population, who are at a higher risk of falling, want to stay in their own homes as they age, House Doctors handyman service says its time to increase awareness of the modifications that can be done to increase safety in homes.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) July 16, 2013 - American Association of Retired Persons research shows 90% of the older population want to stay in their own homes as they age. While research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows the older population is at high risk of falling.

Jim Hunter President of the National handyman service House Doctors reckons that as the population ages we are going to see increases in injuries from falls unless we build more awareness of the safety modifications available.

CDC estimates show around 250,000 bathroom injuries alone are treated in the U.S. annually with most injuries (81.1%) caused by falls. More than a third of those injuries happen while bathing or showering, and more than 14 percent happen while using a toilet. Hunter says, "A third of Americans who are 65 and older fall each year according to the CDC. This means an older adult is being treated in the emergency room for a fall every 15 seconds. Consider the pain, suffering and the cost of this. It's un-acceptable when there are simple modifications that could be done to help with the problem. We need to create more awareness of what's available to increase safety."

House Doctors will now be able to install Safeway Safety Step and Grabcessories products improving safety in the bathroom for their customers and helping them live more comfortably in their homes.

Safeway Safety Step an Ohio company offers multiple bath accessibility products to provide easier accessibility to existing bathtubs. The Safeway Tub Door® and the Safeway Step®products help to prevent falls.

Grabcessories offers a range of beautiful yet affordable grab bars designed to prevent falls and enhance mobility to ensure independent living for a lifetime.

With the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) repor reporting modification for aging-in-place as the fastest growing segment of the residential remodeling industry today Hunter added, "Our data shows an increase in the number of our franchisees widening doorways, fitting walk in tubs and building ramps for customers across the US. Safeway and Grabcessories will give us additional products we can offer our existing customers." Hunter continued, "We have always been popular with seniors. Helping aging residents modify their homes to live safely and securely is important to House Doctors."
