Two DQ Grill & Chill® Restaurants Open in Ohio Turnpike Service Plazas
Convenient locations at the eastern end of the Ohio Turnpike serve up Dairy Queen® iconic soft-serve treats, flavorful foods and Orange Julius® offerings.
July 17, 2013 // Franchising.com // NEW SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Two new DQ® Grill and Chill® restaurants have opened in service plazas on the eastern end of the Ohio Turnpike. The westbound location is located in the Mahoning Valley Service Plaza at mile marker 223. It is the first travel plaza inside Ohio as travelers proceed westward from the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The eastbound location is located in the Glacier Hills Service Plaza at mile marker 223. This eastbound location is the last Ohio Turnpike service center prior to reaching the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Each restaurant is 625 square-feet, with 40 employees, contributing to 80 new jobs in New Springfield. The new restaurant also will contribute to the state’s restaurant sales, which according to the National Restaurant Association are projected to increase by 3.6 percent this year.

An Array of Menu Options
The DQ Grill & Chill concept blends the best of DQ® iconic history with the most modern innovations in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry. The food menu features the quarter- and half-pound GrillBurgerTM made to order, as well as other delicious and unique food items, including deli-style Iron Grilled Sandwiches. Other menu offerings include Grilled or Crispy Chicken Sandwiches and Salads; Chicken Strip Baskets; Shrimp Baskets; Quesadillas and Chili Cheese Dogs.
A new deal is the $5 Buck Lunch, available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating locations. Fans have a choice of a quarter-pound GrillBurger with cheese, 3-piece Chicken Strip Lunch or a Chili Cheese Dog, which are all served with fries, a beverage and choice of a sundae. For just $1 more, fans also will have the option to upgrade their small sundae to a small Blizzard® Treat. The offer may vary in Texas.
Complementing the “Grill” is the “Chill,” with the traditional and indulgent Dairy Queen soft-serve treats everybody knows and loves. Along with all of the DQ favorites, such as the signature Blizzard Treats, MooLatté® frozen blended coffee beverages and waffle bowl sundaes and cones, fans can choose from a variety of fruit-blended beverages, including delicious Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies and now Orange Julius Light Smoothies. All Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies and Julius® Original drinks are available in eight flavors including Orange, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Tripleberry®, Mango Pineapple, Berry-Pom, OrangeBerry and Piña Colada and protein or banana boosts can be added. The Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies are made fresh to order with real fruit blended with low-fat yogurt. The Orange Julius Light Smoothies are 170 calories or less in a small size, contain no artificial sweeteners or flavors and are yogurt free.

The DQ Grill & Chill restaurant interior brings an innovative dimension to QSR dining, highlighted by the modern open-air grill and separate “Grill” and “Chill” sections. Seating is available inside the travel plaza.
