Giant Tiger Helps Build a Home & Craft a Future
OTTAWA, ONTARIO - (Marketwired - July 24, 2013) - Three teams made up of staff from Giant Tiger Home Office helped to build a home and make the dream of homeownership come true as part of the most recent home build for Habitat for Humanity National Capital Region (NCR).
Giant Tiger Home Office staff who wished to participate were given the day off with pay to volunteer at the build site.
"Giant Tiger Stores Limited is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity NCR," says Greg Farrell, President and COO of Giant Tiger Stores Limited. "We are equally proud of our hardworking and dedicated staff that picked up their hammers and put on their hard hats in order to help make decent, affordable housing a reality for this family. This commitment to community is just one of the many things that makes Giant Tiger an employer of choice."
Despite the record-breaking temperatures on the build days, spirits were high and the excitement was evident from each and every volunteer. Giant Tiger volunteers specifically focused on the bungalow being built on the site in Orléans with two other houses. The bungalow will be purchased by the Caceres, a family of six. They desperately need a home of their own and are being offered "a hand up, not a hand out" through the Habitat NCR Homeownership Program.
"As we celebrate 20 years of building and renovating homes both in the National Capital Region and in the developing world, we are excited to be partner with Giant Tiger and our other dedicated sponsors, donors, volunteers and tradespeople to help change the lives of three more families in our community," says Donna Hicks, CEO, Habitat NCR. "We are proud to give families access to safe, decent and affordable housing and we are truly grateful for all of the support that has helped us make this milestone build possible in Orléans."
