New Pollo Tropical® Restaurant Opens in the Dominican Republic in Exclusive Sambil Shopping Center in Santo Domingo

MIAMI - July 23, 2013 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Pollo Tropical®, the Caribbean-inspired chain based in Miami, has opened its 35th international franchised restaurant in the Sambil Shopping Center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The Santo Domingo Pollo Tropical is the largest ever opened (nearly 7,535 square feet) occupying a prime spot near the cinema complex on the “Feria Level” of Santo Domingo’s new Sambil Shopping Center. The restaurant will feature table service, full bar, outdoor patio and the brand’s popular menu of flame-grilled marinated chicken, roast pork, guava barbecue ribs and unique, made-from-scratch side dishes plus a selection of new Dominican items developed exclusively for Pollo Tropical by Executive Chef, Mike Garcia.

The Sambil Shopping Center is the newest and largest mall in the Dominican Republic, featuring over 200 mid-range to high-end retail outlets, multi-cinema, hypermarket, restaurants and food court, as well as a striking walk-through aquarium. This is the fourth Pollo Tropical to open in a Sambil Shopping Center.

This franchised restaurant is owned and operated by Pollo Tropical international franchisees Mary and Rafael Pichardo from Barquisimeto, Venezuela. They have been in the restaurant business for six years, opening 14 franchise Burger King® units and three Pollo Tropical franchise units in Venezuela. This is their first restaurant outside Venezuela, and they have plans to develop Pollo Tropical restaurants in Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire. They plan to open a Pollo Tropical unit in Curaçao in 2014, also in a Sambil Shopping Center.

“Pollo Tropical is proud to be opening its 35th international franchised unit in the Dominican Republic at the prestigious new Sambil Shopping Center,” said Marc Mushkin, Senior Vice President of International Development for Pollo Tropical. “This is the fifth franchised unit we have opened this year, and it represents the second new country this year [India being the first]. We couldn’t be more excited for our franchisees and for the people of Santo Domingo.”
