Hilton Worldwide Continues Expansion of Fast-Growing DoubleTree by Hilton Brand in Spain

Brand Enters Catalonian Capital with Fourth Spanish Hotel

August 01, 2013 // Franchising.com // BARCELONA, Spain and MCLEAN, Va., U.S.A. - Hilton Worldwide has today announced that DoubleTree by Hilton, the fast growing upscale hotel brand which now has more than 350 hotels worldwide, has signed a deal for its fourth property in Spain that will mark its arrival in Barcelona and become the third Hilton Worldwide hotel in the city. The announcement continues a trend of the brand entering prime locations in key European destinations, including recent deals in Lisbon, Dublin and Edinburgh.

Through a franchise agreement with A. Hotels S.A, the existing Alexandra Barcelona Hotel on Carrer de Mallorca will convert to Alexandra Barcelona - a DoubleTree by Hilton in early 2014. The hotel will continue to be managed by hotel operator Diagonal Hotels, which operates a number of additional hotels in Barcelona. Well suited to its location in a city of architectural significance, the Alexandra has a classic Barcelona exterior and enjoys a stylish interior design. Its city centre location offers guests close proximity to many of the sites and cultural gems of a city boasting several UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The hotel currently offers 116 guest rooms, three meeting rooms, a restaurant and a fitness center. As part of the upgrade to the DoubleTree by Hilton brand, the hotel will be adding a complimentary 24 hour connectivity zone, as well as adding characteristic brand features such as the DoubleTree by Hilton signature chocolate chip cookie welcome, an array of upscale amenities and guest services, and the ability to earn and redeem points with the Hilton HHonors guest loyalty programme.

Hilton Worldwide has experienced strong growth in Spain recently, with recent openings including DoubleTree by Hilton & Spa Emporda, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Conference Center La Mola and Hilton Garden Inn Sevilla. The additional DoubleTree by Hilton in Spain will be the DoubleTree by Hilton Girona, which converts later this year. In Barcelona itself the company operates Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona and Hilton Barcelona, the latter undergoing a major renovation only recently.
