The Dairy Queen® System Reopens the Doors to Petersburg Location

DQ Grill & Chill® Restaurant serves up expanded menu including soft-serve treats, flavorful foods and Orange Julius® offerings

PETERSBURG, Ill. – July 23, 2013 - The Dairy Queen® system has reopened its doors at 401 S. 6th Street in Petersburg. The new restaurant has been completely remodeled as a DQ Grill & Chill® restaurant; the system’s newest, most exciting concept, and is minutes from Abraham Lincoln's historic New Salem home.

The 2,700 square-foot location has added 45 new jobs, contributing to Petersburg employment growth. The new restaurant also will contribute to the state’s restaurant sales, which according to the National Restaurant Association are projected to increase by 3.8 percent this year.

“We are excited to reopen our doors with new and improved facilities – as well as the addition of some great menu items. We welcome the community in to enjoy our full menu of cravable food items, cool treats and Orange Julius® Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies and Julius Original drinks,” said Restaurant General Manager Chad Duncheon. “This remodel is sure to attract new customers and become a location where families and friends can gather to share smiles and stories over a great meal and treats.”

An Array of Menu Options

The DQ Grill & Chill concept blends the best of DQ® iconic history with the most modern innovations in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry. The food menu features the quarter- and half-pound GrillBurgerTM made to order, as well as other delicious and unique food items, including deli-style Iron Grilled Sandwiches. Other menu offerings include Grilled or Crispy Chicken Sandwiches and Salads; Chicken Strip Baskets; Shrimp Baskets; Quesadillas and Chili Cheese Dogs.

A new deal is the $5 Buck Lunch, available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating locations. Fans have a choice of a quarter-pound GrillBurger with cheese, 3-piece Chicken Strip Lunch or a Chili Cheese Dog, which are all served with fries, a beverage and choice of a sundae. For just $1 more, fans also will have the option to upgrade their small sundae to a small Blizzard® Treat. The offer may vary in Texas.

Complementing the “Grill” is the “Chill,” with the traditional and indulgent Dairy Queen soft-serve treats everybody knows and loves. Along with all of the DQ favorites, such as the signature Blizzard Treats, MooLatté® frozen blended coffee beverages, DQ Cakes and waffle bowl sundaes and cones, fans can choose from a variety of fruit-blended beverages, including delicious Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies and Orange Julius Light Smoothies. All Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies and Julius® Original drinks are available in eight flavors including Orange, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Tripleberry®, Mango Pineapple, Berry-Pom, OrangeBerry and Piña Colada, and protein or banana boosts can be added. The Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies are made fresh to order with real fruit blended with low-fat yogurt. The Orange Julius Light Smoothies are 170 calories or less in a small size, contain no artificial sweeteners or flavors and are yogurt free.

Design and Décor

The DQ Grill & Chill restaurant interior brings an innovative dimension to QSR dining. Highlighted by the modern open-air grill and separate “Grill” and “Chill” sections, the restaurant features comfortable booths and large wooden tables, warm lighting, music and an overall inviting environment.

The restaurant can seat 68 guests inside, 16 outside and also offers a convenient drive-thru window.
