Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) August 08, 2013 - Home Care Assistance Sacramento, a leading provider of in-home care for seniors, is pleased to announce the grand opening of its new office in Sacramento, California. The Grand Opening event will be held on Saturday, August 10th from 4pm to 8pm. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be hosted by the Metro Sacramento Chamber of Commerce and East Sacramento City Council member, Steve Cohn. There will also be unique artwork on display by local artist Glen Takai and a special presentation on dementia care by Dr. Samuel Gontkovsky, PsyD, Executive Director of Research and Development for Home Care Assistance. Dr. Gontkovsky will provide an engaging discussion around the basics of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, available treatments for these conditions and Home Care Assistance’s proprietary Dementia Therapeutics Method training for caregivers. Guests will enjoy healthy smoothies from Home Care Assistance’s Comfort Foods Cookbook as well as assorted beverages and appetizers.

“I am excited to discuss what makes Home Care Assistance unique in the home care industry and I am confident this new location will be a great resource for members of the Sacramento community,” said Kathy Herrfeldt, Owner of Home Care Assistance of Sacramento. This event is a great opportunity to showcase our new office and introduce our new proprietary offering called the Dementia Therapeutics Method (DTM). This innovative program provides caregivers the training and tools to keep our clients mentally engaged for a better quality of life. The DTM not only sets us apart from other home care agencies, but it also provides clients with a higher level of specialized care.”

Home Care Assistance provides hourly and live-in services to seniors, allowing them to remain safely and comfortably in their own homes as they age. Having an experienced and professional caregiver in the home also provides respite and peace of mind for family members. Home Care Assistance caregivers are expertly trained and follow a holistic approach to care, encouraging independence and engaging clients in physical, mental and social activities, in addition to assisting with basic needs such as meal preparation, personal hygiene, bathing, medication reminders, transportation and more. At the Sacramento location, caregivers will also be trained in the company’s comprehensive Dementia Therapeutics Method™ to provide a one-on-one, tailored intervention program that addresses a wide array of cognitive and non-cognitive domains designed to promote cognitive stimulation and enhance quality of life for those with the neurocognitive deficits associated with dementia.

The Dementia Therapeutics Method™ is an activity-based program designed to delay the onset of new symptoms and slow the progression of existing symptoms in individuals with mild cognitive impairment or a form of dementia. Cognitive exercises are based on scientific research and are consistent with the National Institutes of Health’s landmark 2010 report, which suggested that cognitive stimulation is associated with slower cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s disease. The program presently consists of more than 20 activities, which target both cognitive and non-cognitive domains in order to enhance overall quality of life.

Home Care Assistance of Sacramento’s Care Manager, Monica Tarantino, accepts approximately one out of every 25 caregiver applicants. Background checks, reference checks and work authorization verification are all conducted along with Home Care Assistance’s proprietary, Clinical Psychologist-developed Caregiver Personality Screening, assessing such traits as honesty, kindness, and conscientiousness. Ms. Tarantino approaches each client as if he or she were her own parent and spends time matching the client with the best skilled caregiver for his or her needs and personality.
