The Improving Housing Market Is Good News for Business Says President of House Doctors the Remodeling Franchise

Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) August 13, 2013 - Ongoing improvements in the housing market have led to median home prices continuing to rise in the majority of metropolitan areas in the second quarter. This is good news for business according to Jim Hunter President of House Doctors the professional remodeling franchise.

The latest quarterly report by the National Association of Realtors® shows median home prices continuing to rise in the majority of metropolitan areas in the second quarter. The NAR data shows the national median existing single-family home price was $203,500 in the second quarter, up 12.2 percent from $181,300 in the second quarter of 2012. In the first quarter the median price rose 11.3 percent from a year earlier.

For an area by area comparison see the NAR maphttp://www.realtor.org/topics/metropolitan-median-area-prices-and-affordability/data showing median prices across the US.

Jim Hunter President of House Doctors the National Home Improvement Franchise said, "The improving housing market has a positive effect on many businesses. For example at House Doctors we see a direct link between rising home prices and increased spending on remodeling projects." Hunter continued, "For most of us our homes are our biggest asset. It's also an asset we can invest in and grow through remodeling. Homeowners invest in their property for a better lifestyle and a great return on investment in a growing market."

The NAR data shows the median price increases are not limited to one or two markets but are spread across many areas of the country. The median existing single-family home price increased in 87 percent of measured markets, with 142 out of 163 metropolitan statistical areas showing gains based on closings in the second quarter compared with the second quarter of 2012.

Hunter continued, "At House Doctors, as a National franchise, we have a good handle on the state of the home improvement industry. We are now seeing increased activity across the country. The improving housing market means that confidence is returning and homeowners are again interested in maintaining and improving their properties. This increased interest has led to many of our franchisees seeing double digit gains already this year."

A remodel can be a good way to increase the value of a home in a growing market. One way of getting a cost versus value comparison of remodeling projects in different areas of the country is to use a tool available from Remodeling Magazine. The tool compares the National average cost for 35 popular remodeling projects across the country with the value those projects are expected to retain at resale.
