DoubleTree by Hilton Port Huron Opens Following Dramatic $11M Renovation

Upscale Amenities and Expansive Meeting Capabilities Position Hotel to Become Leading Destination for Business and Leisure Travelers

August 21, 2013 // Franchising.com // PORT HURON, Mich. - DoubleTree by Hilton today announced the opening of DoubleTree by Hilton Port Huron. Formerly the Thomas Edison Inn, the property reopens following a 12-month, multi-million dollar renovation. The hotel's transformation will continue with the development of the new 40,000 square foot Blue Water Area Convention Center, on which the hotel will break ground in October in partnership with St. Clair County. The hotel is owned by JB Real Estate Development, LLC and managed by Illinois-based management company, Hospitality Specialists, Inc.

The 149-room hotel presents a contemporary design incorporated throughout the building's classic 1920's aesthetic. Offering a stunning location along the St. Clair River at the base of Lake Huron, guests at DoubleTree by Hilton Port Huron will enjoy breathtaking views of the crystal blue waters of the Great Lake at every turn - from the expansive windows encompassing the lobby to many of the private guest room balconies. An upgraded lobby incorporates the hotel's signature sparkling vintage chandeliers and classic wood detailing. A new all-day dining restaurant, Freighters Eatery & Taproom, offers indoor/outdoor seating and the perfect locale to enjoy a casual meal or celebrate a special occasion by the river. The restaurant's motto - "commit to the mitt" - centers on preparing the freshest, locally-sourced menu offerings from Michigan.

DoubleTree by Hilton Port Huron offers 9,800 square feet of meeting space for varying event needs with 13 flexible rooms, a 5,400 square-foot ballroom that accommodates up to 600 guests reception-style, and two boardrooms are ideal for professional meeting needs. For wedding receptions and events where a more distinct ambience is desired, the hotel offers event rooms with floor-to-ceiling views of the river.
