Massage Envy Spa to Open First-Ever Clinic in New York City

Nation’s Largest Massage Therapy Franchise Leases Space in Stuyvesant/Gramercy Area

Scottsdale, Ariz. – Massage Envy Spa, the pioneer and national leader of professional, convenient and affordable massage and spa services, announced today plans to open its first-ever clinic in New York City early next year. Massage Envy Spa franchisee John N. Vatistas has signed a lease in the Stuyvesant /Gramercy community. The new Massage Envy Spa location will include 3,400 square feet at 312 East 23rd Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenue.

This location is set to open early next year and will employ approximately 20 to 25 massage therapists and other essential staff. This will bring the total number of operating clinics in New York to 29.

“I am incredibly excited to open New York City’s first Massage Envy Spa location,” said Vatistas, a Staten Island native. “We look forward to serving the people of New York City and bringing them affordable and accessible massage therapy and skincare treatments.”

Vatistas, who built his real estate brokerage company from the ground up in 2005 and became the world’s largest Sotheby’s International Realty franchisee, recently joined Massage Envy Spa as a multi-unit franchisee. In addition to the New York City clinic, he has committed to developing five additional clinics in Massachusetts.

“We’ve been looking to expand into New York City for quite some time -- and finally found the right location and the right franchisee to make it happen,” said Lori Merrall, Massage Envy Spa’s national director of franchise sales. “We believe New York City residents, as well as commuters, will welcome us with open arms and appreciate the services we offer to help them maintain a balanced lifestyle focused on wellness.”

Today, there are nearly 900 locations operating in 48 states, making Massage Envy Spa the largest system of franchised massage clinics in the industry. The company also is the world’s largest employer of licensed/registered massage therapists with at least 21,000 therapists providing over 16 million massages a year to a total of more than 1.3 million members.

Over the next several years, Massage Envy Spa is seeking to expand across the country. To fuel this growth, the company is looking for specific franchisee candidates who have the ability and the desire to learn and follow a system that ensures value and customer satisfaction. Qualified franchisee candidates should have business sales or management experience, but do not necessarily need to have a massage therapy or spa operations background. They also should possess a minimum net worth of $500,000 and liquid assets of at least $150,000. Depending on the real estate, Massage Envy Spa franchisees can expect their initial investment to range from approximately $331,485 – $825,623, including the franchisee fee.
