CHICAGO (Aug. 22, 2013) - Potbelly Sandwich Shop opened its doors at 1 Porter Square, Cambridge, Mass., Wednesday, Aug. 28. This will give Cambridge-area residents the chance to experience the lively, neighborhood hangout that makes Potbelly Sandwich Shop "The Best Place for Lunch."
Ian Goldstein is the general manager who has been with Potbelly since 2005, most recently helping launch the Braintree and Burlington locations. "I am thrilled to be opening the shop in Cambridge," he said. "The city is such a hub of creativity and wonder. When I walk around the neighborhood, there is such great positive energy in the people and environment. There are so many different cultures and ideas that are represented in Cambridge that I am excited Potbelly can become a spot for them all to come together over a warm sandwich and some good music."
The new shop will partner with Green Streets Initiative during its pre-opening event, the Oven Warming Party, to raise awareness and funds for the organization. "Green Streets Initiative is a perfect partner for Potbelly," Goldstein said. "They work at a grass roots level to change our community for the better. We are proud to have this group working in our neighborhood."
Known for its good vibes in addition to great sandwiches, live music has been a part of the Potbelly experience since the first shop opened in 1977. Neighborhood musicians put a little rhythm into lunch by performing live at Potbelly Sandwich Shops around the country. "We plan to open with live music," Goldstein said. "A few of our employees have different musical talents, and they will be included in the performance lineup at the shop." Musicians interested in performing at the new Cambridge Potbelly should contact the shop manager.
Potbelly has built a passionate, loyal following of fans who spread the word about the fun, energetic atmosphere and great food. The unique Potbelly experience is defined by its combination of toasty warm sandwiches, hand-dipped shakes and tasty made-to-order salads, as well as friendly and lively people. "I love the Potbelly experience," Goldstein said. "We create an atmosphere unlike any other quick-service establishment. Our shops are welcoming and guests want to stay. The people on our teams are more than friendly—they’re engaging and honestly want to help our guests and provide them with impeccable service."
This is the first Potbelly Sandwich Shop to open in Cambridge and the new shop will staff approximately 30 employees and managers. The location is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Lunchtime delivery will be available between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. with a $25 order minimum.
