Fast-Growing Franchisor Pro Martial Arts Goes International with Expansion into Canada

September 19, 2013 // Franchising.com // KING OF PRUSSIA, PA. - Pro Martial Arts has expanded into Canada, licensing four Pro Martial Arts schools in the Toronto area that are expected to open in September. The international expansion marks continued rapid growth for the franchisor that has sold 145 licenses across the U.S. and Canada by relying on a proven business formula, an immensely popular youth anti-bullying campaign and a semi-absentee franchise owner model.

Renowned martial artist Grandmaster Ed Samane, who holds an eighth -degree black belt in Tang Soo Do and an eighth-degree black belt in Sin Moo Hapkido, founded Pro Martial Arts in 2008, after more than 30 years as an instructor and 25 years as a martial arts studio owner. Grandmaster Samane’s formula for the franchise mixed world-class martial arts instruction with education programs to build students’ discipline, self-esteem, fitness and character. The PRO Martial Arts ARMOUR™ program, a unique a comprehensive anti-bullying campaign, is one example of how the martial arts franchise has tackled societal issues facing today’s youth through martial arts training.

The four Canadian PRO Martial Arts franchises have been licensed by two owners in the Toronto area. One owner will open a single studio, and the other owner will open three dojos. Grandmaster Samane said he expects the number of Canadian PRO Martial Arts franchises to continue to grow this year and next.

“Canadian children have the same issues that children have in the United States,” said Samane. “Crossing those business barriers and launching in Canada was something that we really needed to do to spread PRO Martial Arts message of physical fitness, anti-bullying and youth education.”

PRO Martial Arts has grown rapidly since forming in 2008, and since embarking on a franchise growth campaign in 2011. New franchises have opened as news of the success of PRO Martial Arts schools has spread across the nation. The unique anti-bullying, fitness and youth education focus of the franchises has led to two-pronged growth of PRO Martial Arts — the existing dojos are seeing swelling numbers of students, and the franchise is seeing new studios open in rapid succession. PRO Martial Arts has 41 franchises open or under construction, but it has 65 owners and 145 licenses sold, which means the number of franchises will more than triple as the franchises under contract begin opening.

Franchisees are attracted by the proven track record of PRO Martial Arts. Samane and an experienced team of franchise experts spent years refining the franchise model to include a turn-key package that includes, marketing, instructor training, site search and construction management. The majority of PRO Martial Arts studio owners are semi-absentee owners who help found the franchise and then rely on a management team to handle the day-to-day operations of the dojo. That semi-absentee owner model has attracted franchise owners who do not want to work full-time hours on the job, but still want the financial rewards and community involvement of business ownership.

About ARMOUR™ Program

The Pro Martial Arts ARMOUR™ program teaches children how to stay safe in an increasingly dangerous world. By enrolling your child, you acknowledge the serious safety threats that your child may face and are making sure they have the armor needed to stand tall against bullying behavior and predator activity – both online and in their everyday lives. The ARMOUR™ program is comprised of 12 weekly lessons on Bullying Prevention and 12 separate lessons on Predator Prevention – based on research from reputable sources specializing in child safety, child psychology, and crime prevention. Every lesson is stand-alone, ensuring students can enter the course at any time. Your child will gain an enhanced ability to assess, avoid, and, if necessary, defend him or herself from danger. We encourage you to continue the discussions at home, emphasizing daily communications, shared feelings, and building your child’s self-esteem.
