Tommy MacDonald and the "Rough Cut – Woodworking with Tommy Mac" crew have some unique projects ready for season four on public television, including a Baseball Bat Bed and a Boston Strong Memory Box. The season opener will air on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Parkersburg, WV (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 - As part of its mission to provide quality instruction for woodworkers, Woodcraft is pleased to again provide major funding for "Rough Cut – Woodworking with Tommy Mac," which will begin its fourth season on Saturday, Oct. 5. Nominated twice for a Daytime Emmy® Award and the recipient of four Telly Awards, "Rough Cut" is hosted by Tommy MacDonald, produced by WGBH Boston, and distributed by American Public Television. Executive producer/director is Laurie Donnelly for WGBH Lifestyle Productions. Additional funding for "Rough Cut" is provided by JET/Powermatic, DMT, Titebond, Oneida Air Systems, Micro Jig, Easy Wood Tools, and Pony Tools.

"Tommy, Laurie and the WGBH crew continue to provide excellent woodworking instruction in a format that reflects an ongoing effort to keep projects interesting and educational for woodworkers of all skill levels. We applaud their efforts," Woodcraft president Jody Garrett said.

Season four projects include a Bent Lamination Chair (season opener), Pine Chest (17th century design), Boston Strong Memory Box, Glass Desk Lamp, Federal Hall Table, Rice Paper Divider, Bookstand, Birdhouse (three actually), Baseball Bat Bed, Chairs x 2, Pub Table, Kitchen Scraps, and Garden Bench.

Boston police commissioner Ed Davis, Tommy’s friend and an avid woodworker, visits the shop in a special episode in which the two men build a Boston Strong Memory Box and the chief shares his memories of the Boston Marathon bombings. An easy-to-build weekend project, the box is perfect for holding memories of a loved one.

In preparation for building the Baseball Bat Bed, his "all-time favorite" project, Tommy visits the Axis Bat Factory at Fall River, Massachusetts, to discover what goes into making a major league bat. The bed, perfect for a young ball player or baseball fan, features bats for posts and a scoreboard as the headboard.

Other road trips for inspiration include visits to: marquetry legend Silas Kopf (Bookstand), the International Contemporary Furniture Show in New York (Bent Lamination Chair), a shoji workshop in Queens, New York (Rice Paper Divider), a glassmaking school in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where artists work miracles with glass and fire (Glass Desk Lamp), and the Pendleton House at the Rhode Island School of Design (Federal Hall Table).

Techniques featured in new episodes include: bending wood into a form using a jig Tommy made, making triple mitered corners as an accent, using stringing and other embellishments, bird-specific birdhouse design, and learning to duplicate a chair to make a set of four or six.

During each half-hour episode, Tommy goes over the step-by-step process of building the featured project, while offering special "T-Mac tips" on technique. Joining Tommy in his shop are series favorites – Eli Cleveland, North Bennet Street School graduate, Boston-based woodworker Al D’Attanasio, and Steve Brown of the North Bennet Street School.
