Bojangles' 15th Annual Golf Classic Raises $257,500 for Muscular Dystrophy Association of Charlotte

October 03, 2013 // Franchising.com // Charlotte, N.C. - Bojangles’ has raised $257,500 for the Charlotte chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association during its annual golf tournament held on Monday, Sept. 30, at Providence Country Club in Charlotte. The funds raised at the event add to an already record-breaking year making Bojangles’ one of MDA’s top sponsors in the Carolinas.

Along with Bojangles’ in-store fundraiser each March, the tournament, now in its 15th year, has raised more than $3 million to help provide resources toward finding a cure for muscular dystrophy through locally-based research and support families affected by neuromuscular diseases.

“Each year the entire Bojangles’ team, vendors and sponsor partners look forward to the Bojangles’ Golf Classic to benefit MDA because we’re able to come together and contribute to a very important cause,” said Bojangles’ President and CEO Randy Kibler. “Every dollar raised from this tournament will support breakthrough research dedicated to finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure and help the MDA have a positive impact on families affected by neuromuscular diseases.”

This year, 150 golfers representing Bojangles’ and its business partners took to the links. Following the 18-hole tournament, participants gathered for an awards reception—which included both a silent and live auction—with Jim Shafer, longtime Charlotte radio broadcaster, as emcee. A number of local celebrity guests and MDA families attended the event. The auctions and raffles, which featured such one-of-a-kind items as a customized Bojangles’ Fender Telecaster® guitar autographed by Scotty McCreery and Fan Experience Packages with Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Carolina Panthers, the Charlotte Bobcats and Darlington Speedway accounted for some of the funds raised for MDA.

The Bojangles’ Golf Classic raises funds in support of pediatric Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy research at the McColl-Lockwood Laboratory at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC).

“We are so grateful for Bojangles’ support which allows us to continue to provide exceptional health care services to families in the Charlotte area,” said MDA Charlotte Divisional Director Theresa Miller. “The funds raised this year by the Bojangles’ team and all their incredible sponsors, vendors and business partners at the Bojangles’ Golf Classic are a step toward winning the fight against neuromuscular diseases.”
