October 16, 2013 // Franchising.com // Orlando, FL - Today, Chilly Ribbons, creators of an entirely new frozen dessert food category in North America called shaved snow, introduces its innovative franchise concepts at the West Coast Franchise Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, October 24-26. With the world's first self-refrigerated multi-flavored ice shaving technology, Chilly Ribbons now brings this new food category as a franchise opportunity to North America. Three franchising models will be presented at the Expo: the brick and mortar store, mobile kiosk and mall kiosk.
Chilly Ribbons is NOT ice cream, shaved ice, frozen yogurt or gelato. It is light and fluffy, like real snow, and most often likened to frozen cotton candy. Guests can enjoy this delicious, low calorie frozen dessert while being entertained watching long ribbons of shaved snow flying into their bowls at high speed from blocks of creamy, flavored ice; all this in an ambiance of a modern-day mountain ski lodge.
Chilly Ribbons will have one of their 'ski chalet' mobile kiosks on site at the Expo where attendees will get a taste of this latest, ' frozen treat and 'sense' all aspects of the customer experience as they enter a warm and inviting wintery booth, complete with snow flakes falling, chimney smoke and icicles.
"This is a fresh, all-new opportunity in franchising that's as much about the show as the taste," said Chilly Ribbons CEO Scott Colwell. "We are thrilled to have this opportunity to share our passion for Chilly Ribbons and the franchise models with Expo attendees."
Unlike shaved ice and other frozen desserts that are topped with syrups for flavoring, Chilly Ribbons is infused with high quality ingredients, all natural flavorings and real fruit purees during the proprietary pasteurization and freezing process. The shaved snow comes in a wide variety of flavors, ranging from mango, coconut and butter pecan to green tea, chocolate fudge and strawberry. In all, Chilly Ribbons offers more than 40 flavors. Toppings include exotic fruits and the more traditional sprinkles and candies.
Chilly Ribbons has also created 'Chilly' a fun, sport loving character that will captivate the attention of customers in unique ways across the various franchising brands.
With its flagship store located in Westwood area of Los Angeles and 11 stores and kiosks currently underway in the United States and Canada, the company is offering three distinctly different franchise opportunities:
The Chilly Ribbons Retail Stores are tailored after a contemporary ski lodge, with features such as white slate walls, warming woods, and a fireplace. The store offers a 'self-serve' concept where guests are in full control of the experience while in the cozy ambiance of a modern day ski lodge. Each visit becomes a memorable and entertaining event as guests watch their 'snow' being shaved into their bowls at high speed.
Chilly Ribbons Mobile Kiosks provide a full turnkey operation, keeping with the distinct branding theme of a beautiful ski lodge. Each one resembles the outside of a ski chalet, complete with light-up icicles, smoke coming out of the chimney, and falling snow. These kiosks are ideally suited for any location where people gather; an amusement park, on a boardwalk, by the beach, or at a concert or special event. Being designed with mobility in mind, each kiosk is easily lifted and transported on a custom trailer to its new destination, whether that be for a day or season.
Chilly Ribbons Mall Kiosks are designed to grab attention in an already colorful setting. Being indoors, the temperature outside will have little bearing on sales.
Although Chilly Ribbons is the first to introduce shaved snow to North America, its actual history can be traced back over 2,000 years to the Roman Emperor, Nero, who, according to legend had servants collect snow from nearby mountains and flavor it with fruit and honey. In more modern times, shaved snow has long been a favorite throughout Asia. Chilly Ribbons Founder and CEO, Scott Colwell experienced the frozen treat first hand in Taiwan, where crowds were gathered watching an incredible show of a solid frozen block of fruit and other delicious ingredients being shaved into long, thin flowing ribbons, and then topped with exotic fruits and other treats. "This was the best dessert I had ever tasted," says Colwell. "I became consumed with one thought: How to introduce the rest of the world to this amazing treat." Colwell worked for several years adapting the shaved snow for the North American palette and developing the delivery technology and the world's first self-refrigerated multi-flavored ice shaving machine.
Chilly Ribbons is headquartered in Orlando, Florida and has three production facilities in the United States and one in Canada. More information can be found at www.chillyribbons.com.
