Local Entrepreneur Opens Iconic Ice Cream Shop, Awards Free Ice Cream for a Year to Winner and Free Scoops to First 500 Customers

October 16, 2013 // Franchising.com // Estero, Fla. – Life in Coconut Point is getting a whole lot sweeter. On Sunday, October 20, Häagen-Dazs Shops, the internationally recognized brand renowned for its high-quality, pure ice cream, sorbets and other finely-crafted frozen desserts, will celebrate the opening of its newest location at The Shops at Coconut Point.

To commemorate the occasion, Häagen-Dazs will be hosting a grand opening celebration, awarding free ice cream for a year to one lucky winner through a raffle hosted the day of the event. During Sunday’s celebration, Häagen-Dazs will also be giving the first 500 customers in attendance a free scoop of their favorite ice cream flavor.

"We’re excited to bring Häagen-Dazs to The Shops at Coconut Point," said Nick Thanas, owner of the new Häagen-Dazs Shop. "And we think that sweetening the day a little bit with free ice cream for our new customers is the best way to show our appreciation for the warm welcome we’ve already received."

Founded in 1961 by Reuben Mattus after years of selling ice cream from a wagon on the streets of New York for his family’s business, the vision for Häagen-Dazs was to produce the highest quality ice cream available, using only the finest, purest ingredients. Mattus’ successful execution of this vision led to the launch of the first Häagen-Dazs Shop in 1976, which still operates today in Brooklyn.

Häagen-Dazs Shops of Coconut Point will continue to offer one-of-a-kind, frozen desserts created from many of the same recipes that the company was founded upon in 1961, in addition to using only the finest, purest ingredients to create its ice cream products.

"Owning a piece of one of the world’s most recognizable brands and being able to operate as my own boss is something that is truly unique and gratifying," added Thanas. "Being able to share that with my local community makes it just that much sweeter."

In addition to its signature irresistible ice cream creations, the internationally-recognized brand offers a unique selection of sorbets, frozen yogurts, frozen beverages and a variety of indulgent frozen desserts including delicious fruit smoothies and Dazzler ice cream treats.
