Massage Envy Spa Raises Nearly $900,000 For Arthritis Foundation During 3rd Annual Healing Hands For Arthritis

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Oct. 23, 2013 // PRNewswire // - Massage Envy Spa, the pioneer and national leader of professional, convenient and affordable massage and spa services, announced today it raised more than $898,000 for the Arthritis Foundation during the third annual Healing Hands for Arthritis. On Sept. 18, 2013, all of Massage Envy Spa's 900 franchise locations donated $10 from every one-hour massage and facial to the Arthritis Foundation. The goal of this one-day national event was to raise funds to find a cure for the 50 million adults and 300,000 children affected by arthritis.

"We are committed to helping the Arthritis Foundation fight this debilitating disease," said Susan Boresow, chief marketing officer of Massage Envy Spa. "Every year, Healing Hands for Arthritis continues to build momentum and we are grateful for all of the support we received across the country."

During the event, Massage Envy Spa's partners Murad®, BioFreeze and Wyndmere donated 10 percent of all sales from their products sold to the Arthritis Foundation.

"The funds raised during the third annual Healing Hands for Arthritis help us get closer to finding a cure and it supports arthritis education, advocacy and research," said Arthritis Foundation President and CEO Ann M. Palmer. "We are proud of our partnership with Massage Envy Spa and together we will continue to fight nation's leading cause of disability."

By the year 2030, an estimated 67 million or 25 percent of the projected total adult population will have arthritis. Massage Envy Spa and the Arthritis Foundation share a common understanding about the devastating effects of arthritis on the body, the rising prevalence and the crucial need to raise money for a cure through events like Healing Hands for Arthritis.

Until there is a cure, massage therapy may help relieve and control certain symptoms. Massage therapy can play an important role in alleviating the pain and swelling caused by arthritis, as well as improving flexibility and circulation and reducing stress and anxiety.

In addition to hosting Healing Hands for Arthritis, Massage Envy Spa is a national sponsor of the Arthritis Foundation's signature event, Arthritis Walk®. Massage Envy Spa owners from across the country have and will continue to have a presence at their local Arthritis Walk events to share information about the benefits of massage therapy, provide chair massages and support the Arthritis Foundation's mission.
