The Dairy Queen® System Opens First Locations in Costa Rica

Quick-service restaurant and treat leader marks its entry into the country with two DQ® Treat stores and announcement of future growth.

MINNEAPOLIS – Oct. 28, 2013 - The Dairy Queen® system, the international retail treat category leader and part of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A and BRK.B), has opened its first two DQ® Treat stores in Costa Rica, making this the 21st country outside the U.S. and Canada with a DQ presence.

Located in the Multiplaza Mall in San Jose, the Multiplaza Dairy Queen store is located at Distrito 3 de San Rafael, Canton Escazu, de Provincia San Jose, centro comercial Multiplaza, Local L-282B. The Calle 0 Dairy Queen store is located downtown at Avenida Central Con Calle 0, 50 mts Oeste de La Universal. Both restaurants feature the soft-serve products that have made the Dairy Queen system an icon in the industry, such as the signature Blizzard® Treat, soft-serve cones with the curl on top, sundaes and other delicious treats. The Multiplaza Dairy Queen store also offers cakes, Iron Grilled Sandwiches, Hot Dogs and Nachos.

In addition to the two DQ stores, Grill and Treats of Costa Rica, a leader in distribution and marketing of consumer products in the country, will open the first DQ Grill & Chill® restaurant in Costa Rica in 2014, which will serve the same delicious food and treats found on DQ Grill & Chill menus in North America, with some local menu options as well. Grill and Treats of Costa Rica plans to open additional Dairy Queen locations throughout Costa Rica within the next five years.
