Renowned Expert Dr. Karyn Gordon Partners with Pizza Pizza to Help Raise Profile of Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week

Building Strong Partnerships Against Bullying

TORONTO, ONTARIO - (Marketwired - Nov. 13, 2013) - As part of its response to the government's call to protect and arm children against various acts of bullying, Pizza Pizza has partnered with Dr. Karyn Gordon, a leading relationship and parenting expert, to help share information, tips and interactive activities surrounding the important topic of bullying in our schools and communities.

"Kids are our future and we support many children's and community initiatives across the country," said Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer at Pizza Pizza. "We are dedicated to helping children and teens in Canada develop healthy relationships and tackle the issue of bullying. Dr. Karyn is a respected speaker on the topic and it is vital for us to share her message with kids and provide them the opportunity to hear her speak."

At the core of the partnership is a presentation that Dr. Karyn is delivering to six elementary schools in the greater Toronto area and the launch of a special webpage, www.PizzaPizza.ca/AntiBullying, which allows Canadian students to share their healthy friendship stories and be rewarded with pizza. The speaking tour will begin on Tuesday, November 19 with the first in-school presentation at Bogart Public School in Newmarket in the company of the local mayor, city representatives and the Bully Free Community Alliance of York Region.

Dr. Karyn's interactive talk will touch on various topics, including the three traits of a healthy friendship, how teasing is different than bullying (and how kids should respond differently), effective ways for kids to deal with conflict and differences among friends, and the importance of empathy in friendships and dealing with bullying. Students will also receive motivational coaching with advice on how to handle difficult situations.

"Bullying has become a prominent issue not just in Canada, but around the world," said Dr. Karyn. "I'm thankful to have the support of a leader like Pizza Pizza for Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week to help create a dialogue between children and parents so that they can become more open about the topic and take steps to overcome it."
