Midwest Student-Athletes Named National Finalists For Wendy's® High School Heisman® Award

Students Surprised with News during High School Celebrations

DUBLIN, Ohio - Nov. 14, 2013 // PRNewswire // - Of the 48,000 students who applied for this year's award, Chandler Carroll from Yorktown High School in Yorktown, IN, and Rebekah Ehresman from El Paso-Gridley High School in El Paso, IL, were chosen as two of twelve National Finalists for the 2013 Wendy's® High School Heisman® Award. The award honors exceptional students who bring excellence in academics, athletics and community service.

The twelve National Finalists will travel to New York City where two National Winners – one male, one female – will be chosen and each will receive a crystal Wendy's High School Heisman trophy; $10,000 donation to their respective high schools; and recognition during the collegiate Heisman ceremony in New York City on Saturday, December 14, 2013.

Chandler Carroll, Yorktown High School

Chandler Carroll excels on and off the field. He has been honored as an outstanding student-athlete at both the conference and state level for both Football and Wrestling. He has set the record for the single season rushing at Yorktown High School and was named "most outstanding wrestler" of the Indiana Team State Championships. Chandler is involved with serving the community through his local church.

Rebekah Ehresman, El Paso-Gridley High School

Rebekah Ehresman has excelled in the classroom and in her role as a leader on El Paso-Gridley's Volleyball and Basketball teams. She has received academic honors at her high school and has been named All-Conference and All-State for both sports. Rebecca is involved in her community through her school's Key Club.

Created in 1994 by Wendy's and the Heisman Memorial Trust, the Wendy's High School Heisman Award recognizes outstanding high-school seniors nationwide who excel in athletics, academics and in the community. Students can nominate themselves for the award online, in addition to being recommended by principals, teachers, guidance counselors and coaches. The most exceptional students are then selected to advance during extensive judging processes conducted at both state and national levels.
