Take A Peek: Men In Kilts Gives a 'Power Pitch' On CNBC

Men In Kilts, a window and exterior cleaning franchise, was featured on CNBC’s Power Lunch talking about the business that has everyone turning their heads.

December 02, 2013 // Franchising.com // Men In Kilts CEO Tressa Wood and Founder Nicholas Brand appeared on CNBC’s Power Pitch on Wednesday November 27th. Power Pitch is a weekly series where founders of cutting-edge start-ups have 60 seconds to convince a panel of experts that their business has what it takes to succeed. The series shines a light on a new wave of fearless leaders, bold ideas, fascinating trends, big money, and avant-garde technology.

Wood and Brand pitched their business to host Amanda Drury, and panelists Don Peebles, Chairman of Peebles, and Julia Boorstin, CNBC Media and Entertainment Reporter.

"It was great being on the show, and we were thrilled that Amanda was ‘In’," shares Wood. "Every bold idea or concept has naysayers, but as an entrepreneur you have to get past that. Many great companies would not exist if they gave up at the first sign of a challenge. We know Men In Kilts will be a huge success as we have already seen it working across Canada and the U.S. Our customers may choose us initially because of the kilts, but they keep using us for the great customer service we provide, which is really how we intend to dominate in this industry."

Yahoo.com posted the segment on the websites front page, which ultimately generated a lot of buzz and traffic to the Men In Kilts franchise site, including an appearance on Good Morning America.

"It was great to see so many people talking about our company. There are a lot of people out there who love the brand and the concept as much as we do," says Wood.

In response to those who are still skeptical of the whole idea Brand acknowledges, "The whole ‘gimmick’ thing is not new to us, but as I said before no one would be talking to us if this were Nic’s Window Cleaning or ABC Window Cleaning. In this day in age you have to have a name and concept that people will remember. We’ve done that."

About Men In Kilts

Men In Kilts was started in 2002 by Nicholas Brand, a Vancouver based Scotsman who fashioned a hand-sewn kilt and put a visual to the otherwise faceless window cleaner.

By 2009, the location had grown to over one million in revenue and caught the attention of Tressa Wood, former VP of Operations from 1-800-GOT-JUNK?. Tressa joined the team as CEO and began the process of franchising the company. Men In Kilts now has locations across North America and plans to expand to every major metro by 2017.

Positioned to serve the growing demands of the multi-billion dollar cleaning and building maintenance industry, the Men In Kilts concept is about building a national brand that delivers an unparalleled level of professional service to both the residential and commercial markets.
