2014 Leadership Changes Position Great Clips for Continued Growth

January 02, 2014 // Franchising.com // Effective Jan. 1, 2014, Minneapolis-based Great Clips, Inc., the world’s largest salon brand and 30-plus year franchise company, announced several promotions in conjunction with the semi-retirement of Great Clips President Charlie Simpson. Simpson will stay on part-time as an Executive Advisor focusing on executive development and providing input on strategic issues. He will also serve on the Great Clips, Inc. Board of Directors.

Filling the vacated President’s role is Great Clips’ COO Steve Hockett. Hockett will concentrate his efforts on growing the Great Clips brand and leading Great Clips franchisees and corporate staff into the future.

Over the years, Hockett has served as a Marketing Manager, Regional Director, Vice President of Operations and, most recently, Chief Operations Officer for Great Clips. He also left the organization for several years and gained experience in other businesses, including serving as President of FranChoice and President of Rapid Refill.

Simpson believes Hockett is a great choice to lead the brand into the future, "Steve is an ideal candidate to take Great Clips to the next level. His experience as a Great Clips franchisee is a great complement to his many years at corporate with Great Clips. The fact that Steve left Great Clips and gained experience in other franchise businesses is also a plus."

Great Clips CEO Rhoda Olsen agrees, "We are pleased to have such an exceptional leader ready to rise from the ranks to fill the President role. Steve lives and breathes Great Clips. He has been involved with Great Clips for 25 years in various roles starting as a Great Clips franchisee in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market back in 1988."

Rob Goggins will fill the COO role. Goggins joined Great Clips in 2006 as Vice President of Development. In 2011, he added real estate to his leadership responsibilities as SVP of Real Estate and Development. In the role of COO, Goggins will oversee those same areas plus Business Services and Operations.

These moves are a direct result of several years of focus on succession planning and leadership development at Great Clips. "We are pleased to have built our bench strength to be able to make these changes with our internal talent," said Olsen.
