Wiggin and Dana Announces Attorney Promotions

January 10, 2014 // Franchising.com // New Haven – Wiggin and Dana is pleased to announce four new Partners and two new Counsel effective January 1, 2014.

Partners

Kevin Budge is a member of the firm's Litigation Department. His practice focuses on medical malpractice defense, commercial litigation and probate litigation. Kevin provides counsel and gives presentations to healthcare providers regarding managing risks and limiting liability. He also provides counsel and representation to hospitals and other healthcare providers regarding conservatorships, psychiatric commitments, psychiatric medications and related proceedings before courts in the State of Connecticut.

Michael Clear is a member of the firm's Private Client Services Department. Michael assists individuals and families with tax-efficient and practical estate and gift planning, including the preparation of wills, revocable living trusts, insurance trusts, and qualified personal residence trusts. He also guides fiduciaries and beneficiaries through estate settlement and trust administration matters. Michael advises clients in will and trust construction cases, contested accounting proceedings, fiduciary removal proceedings, payment of unpaid claims and conservatorship and guardianship matters. He also assists our business owner clients with succession planning. He was recently selected by the Connecticut Law Tribune as a New Leader in the Law for 2013, is a co-chair of the Probate and Estates Section of the Fairfield County Bar Association, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Chapter of the Exit Planning Exchange (CT XPX).

Elliot Kaiman is a member of the firm's Real Estate, Environmental and Energy Department. Elliot's practice includes real estate, design and construction, financing, general business counseling, property taxation, and energy and utilities law. He regularly represents clients in a broad range of transactions, including real estate acquisitions, sales, development, leasing and financing; joint venture formation; and professional design and construction matters. Elliot also has significant experience resolving property tax disputes with municipal assessors and boards of assessment appeals. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Economic Resource Center, Inc. and is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) Center for Education Faculty.

Joseph Merschman is a member of the firm's Litigation Department and the firm's Class Actions, Antitrust and Consumer Protection, Franchise and Distribution, and Environmental Litigation Practice Groups. Joe represents clients in a broad range of complex business litigation in federal and state courts. He is Co-Chair of the Securities Litigation Subcommittee of the American Bar Association's Commercial & Business Litigation Committee and a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and the New Haven Inn of Court.
Counsel

Jenny Chou is a member of the firm's Litigation Department and has significant experience representing individuals and entities in civil litigation, criminal prosecutions and other governmental proceedings concerning securities and complex financial matters. She recently represented clients in cases involving the Madoff fraud and fallout from the 2008 financial crisis. Jenny also has extensive experience conducting internal investigations for a wide range of companies and institutions. She is a co-author of the firm's Supreme Court Update, an email service keeping friends and clients of the firm abreast of the latest developments at the Court.

Michael Menapace is a member of the firm's Litigation Department and his practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and insurance and reinsurance law. He has significant experience representing leading insurance industry trade groups before state and federal courts in complex insurance disputes, as well as in arbitrations across the country. Michael also advises insurers on policy construction, coverage, and regulatory issues. Michael serves on the Board of Directors for the Hartford County Bar Association and is Co-Chair of its Federal Practice Section. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for The Hartt School, University of Hartford.
