Carl’s Jr.® Continues Growth in Canada, Opens New Restaurant in Abbotsford

Local entrepreneurs securing additional locations from Chilliwack to Vancouver over the next five years.

ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia - January 16, 2014 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Carl's Jr. brings its big, delicious burgers to another Canadian community – Abbotsford, British Columbia. The popular American fast-food chain known for its premium charbroiled 100 percent Black Angus beef Thickburgers® on Fresh Baked Buns, Made from Scratch Biscuits™ and Hand-Scooped Ice Cream Shakes opened its newest location this week. The new restaurant, operated by franchisee FYP Investments Inc., is the seventh Carl's Jr. location to open in British Columbia and the eighth in Canada; it is part of CKE's larger plan to expand the chain across Canada in the coming months and years. With a rapidly expanding international footprint, CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc. operates Carl's Jr. and Hardee's as one brand under two names acknowledging the regional heritage of both banners.

The Abbotsford restaurant, at 30770 Fraser Highway, Unit 5, is the third Carl's Jr. franchise location in the greater Vancouver area operated by FYP, which plans 25 additional stores over the next five years in Chilliwack, Vancouver, Langley and Surrey. Operated by local businessman Billy Newell and his partners Chui Gracia, Ron Santolaya and Hernan Martinez, the FYP team sees tremendous opportunity for Carl's Jr. across Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and beyond.

FYP is one of eight franchisees developing the Carl's Jr. brand in Canada. In British Columbia, franchisees also include Jove Franchise Development, operating four restaurants, in Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops and Penticton. In addition, I-5 Restaurants has a Carl's Jr. open in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Other franchisees are expected to open locations this year in Edmonton and Toronto.
