The Dairy Queen® System Expands Global Footprint

Dairy Queen® to re-enter Taiwan, and enter Vietnam and Guyana for the First Time

January 21, 2014 // Franchising.com // MINNEAPOLIS – The Dairy Queen system, the international retail treat category leader and part of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A and BRK.B), has recently re-entered Taiwan, and also plans to open the first DQ® locations in Vietnam and Guyana during 2014, which will bring the number of countries outside the U.S. where the Dairy Queen system has a presence to 24.

Jolly Brands, Inc. opened a Dairy Queen location in the Tianmu neighborhood of Taipei City, Taiwan on Dec. 26, 2013. They plan to open 45 treat stores throughout the country within the next five years.

In Vietnam, the Dairy Queen system has signed a multi-unit deal with QSR Vietnam Trading One Member Company Limited (QSR). QSR plans to open the first DQ Treat store in Ho Chi Minh City in January 2014. Within five years, the firm plans to open 60 additional DQ Treat stores throughout the country.

The largest quick-service restaurant operator in Guyana, Camex Restaurants Inc. (CRI) has signed an agreement for multi-unit development rights to build DQ Grill and Chill® restaurants and DQ Treat stores in Guyana. Two locations are expected to open in first quarter 2014 as part of the six DQ Grill & Chill restaurants and six DQ Treat stores scheduled to open over the next five years.
