Former Home Remodler Launches Home Inspection Business in Chicago

Duane Savage Draws on Construction Background for New Pillar To Post Business

January 28, 2014 // Franchising.com // CHICAGO – Duane Savage has a particularly keen mind for homes. As a former home remodeler and owner of a historic home himself, he watched Chicago’s gentrification with a sharp eye. Wanting a steadier source of income for himself while maintaining his work with historic houses and buildings, Savage opened his Pillar To Post home inspection business in December 2013 serving the city of Chicago.

Prior to launching his business, Savage worked as an event photographer and a home remodeler. In 1984 he purchased a historic home for himself, originally built in 1918, giving him firsthand experience with many of the issues Chicago homeowners face.

"I understand the challenges of owning and maintaining older buildings," he said. "I have learned through experience, as a remodeler and a homeowner, that some things that may be considered defects or flaws really have no bearing on the enjoyment of the house. That helps me differentiate between repairs that are urgent and necessary and cosmetic flaws that do not pose a threat to the home."

Savage has invested heavily in his Pillar To Post business and is looking forward building equity through hard work as he serves his community. A native Chicagoan, he has been watching closely as the cirty rapidly gentrifies.

"Many of the older structures are being reclaimed and upgraded," he said. "The combination of my expertise as a remodeler and my training as a home inspector is a real asset for clients looking to invest in or reclaim an older property."

Savage hopes to capture the Chicago market and begin expanding his business quickly by hiring several other home inspectors within three years.
