Cousins Subs will Award $14,000 in Scholarships to Wisconsin Students

MILWAUKEE - January 27th, 2014 – High school senior athletes can win up to $5,000 in scholarships through the 2nd Annual Wisconsin Sports Awards Scholarship Contest (WSASC), sponsored by Wisconsin-based Cousins Subs.

The scholarship contest honors high school senior athletes throughout the state who have participated in a WIAA sanctioned sport with a chance to be awarded up to a $5,000 scholarship for continuing their education. First place prizes of $5,000 will be awarded to one male and one female athlete. Runner-up prizes of $2,000 will also be awarded to one male and one female athlete.

From the qualified applicants, four finalists will be selected by the Board of Directors of the Make It Better Foundation. The finalists will receive their awards and be recognized at GKB Events Wisconsin Sports Awards on April 24th at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) in Milwaukee.

"The Wisconsin Sports Awards is a night of recognition of Wisconsin’s ‘best of the best’ in professional and collegiate sports, honoring athletes and coaches alike," McCoy said. "Coaches, management and players from baseball, basketball, football and more will be in attendance. It will be quite a night!"

The scholarships will be funded through Cousins Subs’ Make It Better Foundation, a corporate foundation established last year.

"Through the sponsorship of the WSASC, Cousins Subs is honored to be giving back to the communities that we serve," said Justin McCoy, vice president of marketing at Cousins Subs. "The WSASC encompasses two of our foundation’s core missions: health & wellness and youth education."

About Cousins Subs®

Cousins Subs® and its franchisees operate more than 130 sub sandwich shops in four states, with bold expansion plans. The first Cousins Subs was established in Milwaukee in 1972 by Bill Specht and his cousin. Their dream was to bring East Coast-style sub sandwiches to Milwaukee – with their own handcrafted touch. They started with their bread, developing a secret recipe with the perfect taste and crunch. That bread is the cornerstone of the Cousins Subs slogan, "Better Bread. Better Subs. Better Day." The original recipe is still closely followed at every Cousins Subs store, where each sandwich is made to order using freshly sliced deli meats, cheeses, and vegetables – and the bread is baked fresh each day. Forty-one years later and still family owned, Cousins Subs employees and franchisees are driven by their mission to "Make it a Better Day" in all they do. In 2013, the brand proudly announced the establishment of the Make it Better Foundation, dedicated to funding causes that address health and wellness, hunger and youth education in the communities that Cousins Subs serves.
