The Dairy Queen® System Rolls Out the Red Velvet this Valentine's Day

New Red Velvet Blizzard® Treat Added to the Menu in February

MINNEAPOLIS – January 31, 2014 - The Dairy Queen® system will sweeten Valentine's Day and the entire month of February with the debut of Red Velvet as the featured Blizzard® Treat of the Month.

An indulgent combination of red velvet cake pieces and cream cheese frosting swirled with creamy DQ® vanilla soft serve, the Red Velvet Blizzard Treat is available at participating Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill® restaurants nationwide beginning Feb. 1. Dairy Queen fans can enjoy Red Velvet Blizzard Treats in four sizes, including the popular Mini.

"We've added a new spin to a red hot, trendy flavor. Now our fans can enjoy a handcrafted new variation with a DQ signature Red Velvet Blizzard Treat," said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation (ADQ). "It's just one of the new and innovative fan-worthy flavors the Dairy Queen system will introduce this year. We're always celebrating Blizzard season at DQ."

Many Blizzard Treat flavors, including Red Velvet, can easily be made into DQ Cakes which are perfect for Valentine's Day, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and more.

The Dairy Queen system began blending simple combinations of cookies, chocolates, nuts, candies and fruits with DQ soft serve in 1985 to create the signature Blizzard Treat. The iconic treat has created the served upside-down Blizzard culture and since then, one-of-a-kind flavors such as S'mores, Chocolate Candy Shop and Confetti Cake have delighted Dairy Queen fans as part of the featured Blizzard of the Month program, which began in 2003.
