That was the reason the experienced manager and entrepreneur decided to open his own Floor Coverings International business on Dec. 10, 2013. With a showroom located at 7518-A Hagers Hollow Drive in Denver, N.C. to complement his mobile showroom service, which serves Lake Norman area, Hickory, North Charlotte and Concord, N.C., Gentry is confident that his newest business venture will fill the missing piece of his entrepreneurial puzzle.
"This was the right time to invest in a new business and between the resurgence of the housing market and the fantastic culture of Floor Coverings International, this was the right business for me to open," he said.
Gentry has over 30 years of experience in automotive finance with companies including Toyota and Volkswagen, as well as managerial experience running their call centers. When he decided, along with his wife, that it was time for him to diversify his business portfolio in order to help maintain and build financial stability, he looked into opportunities that would be able to capitalize on markets that were reemerging thanks to the economic recovery. That search led him to Floor Coverings International.

"What I am seeing is that unemployment is coming down and there are more for sale signs in front of homes," he explained. Since his business has opened Gentry has primarily worked with residential clients who are preparing their homes to go on the market, as well as a handful of jobs for commercial clients looking to update their office space. He is also pursuing charitable ventures; he has served on the board of the local United Way and recently began working with Habitat for Humanity to donate time and work for their office remodel.
Gentry is focused on continuing to build and expand his client base in both residential and commercial sectors, and is working to add a home sales associate to his team. He would like to expand his business and territories covered within the next two years.
