Beginning Monday, March 3rd, they are asking people to pledge to remove sound from one’s life for one day, May 1st, 2014, to help spread awareness for better hearing.
"An estimated 26 million people have noise induced hearing loss," said Jenni Hargraves, Director Miracle-Ear Foundation. "One Day Without Sound is intended to educate the community on loud noises impacting hearing loss, as well as, provide prevention tips."
By registering at http://www.onedaywithoutsound.org individuals will receive information on how to protect their hearing, as well as receive a One Day Without Sound Kit for use on May 1, 2014 which includes noise reduction earplugs, courtesy of 3M. The earplugs are rated to reduce up to 25 decibels of sound, providing a listening environment similar to someone who has a hearing loss.
"Our hearing is precious; it connects us with friends and family. It enhances our life experiences as we learn both as children and adults. It can be imperative in school and the workplace", said Hargraves. "By taking one day where we recognize how difficult it is to have a hearing impairment, it’s a chance for us to reflect on ways in which we can take care of our hearing year-round in all situations where noise levels may be unsafe."
