Iconic Local Ice Cream Shop Supports Florida Baptist Children’s Homes and BAPS Charities with Event Proceeds, Offers Free Scoops to First 500 Customers

On Saturday, March 22, Häagen-Dazs Shops, the internationally recognized brand renowned for its high-quality, pure ice cream, gelatos, sorbets and other finely-crafted frozen desserts, will celebrate the opening of its newest location in Lakeland Square Mall.

To commemorate the occasion, the Häagen-Dazs brand will be hosting a grand opening celebration, awarding free ice cream to the first 500 customers. In attendance at the event, local owners, Ron and Don Patel will be hosting children and representatives from the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes organization, as a percentage of proceeds from the day will be donated to the organization as well as to BAPS Charities.

"Since opening in December, we’ve already experienced such a warm welcome from our business neighbors and customers here in Lakeland," said Ron Patel. "As a way to say thank you to our community and celebrate our appreciation, we thought we could sweeten the day a little bit with free ice cream and also support and raise awareness for organizations in the area that are close to our hearts."

Founded in 1961 by Reuben Mattus after years of selling ice cream from a wagon on the streets of New York for his family’s business, the vision for Häagen-Dazs ice cream was to produce the highest quality ice cream available, using only the finest, purest ingredients. Mattus’ successful execution of this vision led to the launch of the first Häagen-Dazs Shop in 1976, which still operates today in Brooklyn.

Häagen-Dazs Shops of Lakeland Square offers one-of-a-kind, frozen desserts created from many of the same recipes that the company was founded upon in 1961, in addition to using only the finest, purest ingredients to create its ice cream products.

"Owning a piece of one of the world’s most iconic brands and being able to operate the shop with family is truly unique and gratifying," added Patel. "Being able to share our appreciation with the community and local charities makes it all just that much sweeter."

In addition to its signature irresistible ice cream creations, the internationally-recognized brand offers a unique selection of gelatos, sorbets, frozen yogurts, frozen beverages and a variety of indulgent frozen desserts including delicious fruit smoothies and Dazzler ice cream treats.
